They're so close, I can reach out I can touch their coal coloured combat boots. Controlling my breath so they can't hear me is a lot harder than I could've imagined. It feels like every exhale will get me caught. I would've never thought to be in this kind of situation. "John, she'll be here, just calm down." The man with the higher pitch voice reassures his partner. When they start walking away an exhale is released, that I was unconsciously holding in. I'm no fighter, so the only way to get out of here alive is with help. After silently pulling Blaze's number out of my side pocket, I struggle to be quiet while reaching for my phone. It's in my back pocket but the space between me and the bed frame is so small. A simple slip up can cause me to hit the bed and make a loud noise exposing my location. Rolling onto my stomach made it much easier. After finally grabbing my phone I turn onto my back once more. The screen on my phone is dark because the battery was low, thank God, this way the men won't see it as much. My fingers quiver as I slowly dial the numbers into the keypad:
9-8-5-4-3-1-9-3-6-8
I hold my breath when the ringing begins. *Bzzz* One. *Bzzz* Two. *Bzzz* Three. My blood starts to rush as my patience decreases. *Bzzz* Four. Only one more *Bzzz* Come one Blaze! *Click* "Please leave your mess-" I don't want the men to catch me so I hang up. After taking a deep breath I turn my phone on again. The battery is at three percent. There's no time to waste:
9-8-5-4-3-1-9-3-6-8
*Bzzz* One. *Bzzz* Two. *Bzzz* Three. If he doesn't answer, my phone will die. *Bzzz* Four. Come on! *Bzz-* ..."Hello? Hey Rae is that you?" Oh thank God! I let out a breath and begin to whisper into the phone. "Blaze, it's me. I'm in my house and-" He cuts me off "Oh I'm glad you called, heh, you know I was worried that I might've seemed like a wimp earlier but-" "BLAZE! Listen to me!" I whisper yell into the phone praying that it's not too loud. "Some guys are in my house. I don't know who they are or why they're here but..." My voice trails off as the image of my my moms lifeless body flashes into my mind. "They killed my mom Blaze." A tear rolls back toward my ear and I wipe it away "Listen I know this sounds crazy but I need you right now...You're the only person I can count on. Please, help me." There are a few seconds of silence. "Blaze?" "I'll be right there" *Click* I look at my phone and see the call end. Only two minutes go by before the glass from my moms bedroom window shatters. I quickly turn my head to the right and see Blazes all black converse. "THE GIRLS HERE" John shouts from the other side of the house. Sh*t! A hand grabs my ankle and pulls me from under the bed, before I can scream he stands me up facing away from him and puts his hand over my mouth. Then he quickly backs up into the wall close to the door frame of my moms room. In attempt to get the person off I grab the hand that's over my mouth and try to pull away while shaking my head side to side. "Rae calm down! It's me!" My nerves dial down when I turn to to see Blazes face. "When I say "go" make a run for the window and I'll hold them off" he whispers as one of the men run into the room. Blaze and I immediately look at each other, "GO!" He yells while pulling a small knife out of his pocket. My legs move faster then they ever have in order to get me to the window. There's glass everywhere, the shards penetrating my palms doesn't bother me as I hoist myself up. Before allowing myself to drop on the other side I look back to see how Blaze is holding up. One man is already on the ground, there's a pool of blood surrounding an open wound on his side which he tries to put pressure on. The man who sounds like John is about to shoot Blaze. He closes off all space between himself and the gunman this way they have to fight. John swings his gun over head and slams it into the top of Blazes forearm. I gasp as the man kicks Blaze in the shin, knocking him down to one knee. After letting go of the gun with one hand John grabs a hold of Blazes throat, his body is easily hoisted up off the ground with one hand. I begin to feel the same adrenaline rush from last week while watching Blaze struggling to breath. My hands ball into fists and sweat drips down my forehead. This is completely different from the incident with Jarred but to me, it's the same. I immediately turn around, jump back into the house and rush toward the wounded man. Blaze is holding onto Johns hand while his feet kick in attempt to get free. He weakly motions for me to leave as he gasps for air. Being my stubborn self I pull the pistol out of the wounded mans hand. The adrenaline rushing through my veins makes me swiftly pull the gun up to Johns temple. Without another thought I hold my breath, shut my eyes, and pull the trigger. When my eyes open everything is red and, I can see it in slow motion. My hands are flying up in the air as I take a step backwards, almost stumbling to the floor. Blood splatters out the other side of Johns head along with the silver bullet. Blazes arms slowly fall to his sides as his eyes gradually roll back. John falls to his knees as his grip loosens on both Blaze and his gun. Both guys fall to the floor. Everything speeds up as I drop the gun and rush over to Blazes side. One of my hands is holding his head off the ground and the other is on his chest. "Blaze! Blaze are you ok!" I put my head to his heart and listen. *Thump*. *Thump*. *Thump*. "Oh my God." He begins to cough as I wrap my arms around him. Tears drip out of my eyes while he sits up. "I thought out lost you too." I cried. He wrapped his arm around me in reassurance that he'll always be there. "RAE!" Blaze screams and pushes me away. A gun shoots while my body slams to the ground. Blazes left shoulder is pushed backwards and blood splatters on the wall behind him. My eyes focus on the wounded man who shot Blaze and I feel a frown take over the entirety of my face. My heart is beating faster than ever before. He points the pistol at me as I pin my body against the end of the bed for protection. He shoots anyway but misses. My eyes widen as images of my dream about the flower flash through my head along with the memories of arriving to my house and calling Blaze to help me. My jaws clench and my body trembles as my eyes scan the room. On the floor of the closet is a small safe, mom told me only to open it in an emergency. I crawl to the closet and close the door behind me, luckily avoiding another hastened bullet. With the safe in front of me, I realise that mom never told me the combination. I have to think. My gaze jumps from place to place in the closet until noticing a small corner of paper visible from under the safe. Carefully, I slide the paper out from underneath. It reads:"For my dearest husband, Liam.
Love, Sarah"DAD! I hear another gunshot and a scream that sounds like Blaze. My fingers hastily input my dads death date into the keypad:
0-5-1-8-2-0-1-4
*Beep* It didn't work? Why? There were apparently too many numbers. I begin to panic and input random numbers until finally, it hits me:
5-1-8-1-4
*Beep* *Beep* It opens. The first thing to catch my eye in the safe is a gun smaller the one currently in use. Without hesitation my hand wraps around the handle. I lay on the ground and pull open the closet door while positioning the gun to the direction where the man was last. A bullet flies just above my head and my eyes shut tightly. My gun fires while I look at Blaze and notice another gunshot in his leg, the bullet misses. I roll to the left just before the man shoots again. After quickly positioning my gun again I pull the trigger and pray that his time is hits him. It fails. When I open my eyes the man is about to shoot and I can't react fast enough. Just as he pulls the trigger Blaze kicks his hand causing the bullet to fly way of course. "DAM**T." The wounded man shouts as he points his gun to Blaze. "NO!" I yell as it all turns red and everything is in slow motion again. My free hand is extended outward, and I get on one knee, about to run towards the man in attempt to push the gun away. I'm too far and too slow. The man pulls the trigger and the slide retracts. Time speeds up again. *Click* The gun is empty! The confusion quickly disappears from the mans face as he goes to hit Blaze with the gun. By then I'm already there. My entire body flies into his. The man pins me on the ground causing my gun to fall. He lifts his arm to hit me with the pistol, but before he does I stick my index and middle fingers into his wound; making him drop the weapon and scream in agony. Blaze limps to us and quickly pushed the man off of me. He gets on the wounded man and repeatedly punches him in the face. I grab my gun and hand it to Blaze, not wanting to end any more lives. I tightly shut my eyes as he sets the barrel on the mans forehead. "See you in hell." He mumbled before pulling the trigger.***Note***
