I spend my whole lunch talking to Jack about nothing and after that, I make my way to my science class on my own, because that was the only class I had without any of my friends in it.
I take a seat at the back of the classroom on my own and wait for the tutor to come in. The desks could fit 2 people on but I had the whole desk to myself which was great. I love having my own space.
“Ok ok, settle down class” the tutor says, making everyone sit down in their seats. He writes his name on the board.
Mr. Nicholas.
“My name’s Mr. Nicholas and I’m your science tutor” he explains.
I sigh at the word ‘science’. I hate science, nothing could make me like science, I didn’t understand anything about science. He hands everyone a piece of paper and starts writing loads of stuff on the board about chemicals, making us copy him. I moaned and started writing.
I look up at the board for the next sentence when I see Conor slowly opening the door, obviously not wanting the teacher see him walking in late. I laugh to myself because Mr. Nicholas doesn't notice anything. He is pretty old. Conor walks into the class and quietly makes his way to the only empty seat in the class... Next to me.
I widen my eyes as he walks over to me and slumps himself onto the chair next to me. Are you being serious? Why me? I thought I couldn’t possible hate science any more than I do, but Conor just changed that. I now despise science.
“Do you have any paper?” he asks me. I sigh and gave him the piece of paper underneath the paper I was writing on. I always use two, one to lean on and one to write on. It’s easier to write this way. “Thanks” he smiles and starts copying down the notes on the board. I let out a small laugh.
For what feels like days later, Mr. Nicholas finally gives us more instructions than ‘copy down the notes’. We have to put different chemicals into a beaker thing to try and make a ‘chemical reaction’...
Ok I didn’t know what I was doing. I was too worked up on the fact I had to work with Conor, and the whole time we was writing, he kept nudging me, making me scribble across my page. I had to hold in my scream. I was so frustrated.
I get out of my seat and collect the equipment we need, knowing that Conor won’t get them. I get us a pair of safety glasses and go back to my seat with all the equipment. Conor's smirking at me, watching me struggle with all the stuff.
“Thanks for the help” I say sarcastically, throwing the glasses at him. He laughs at me so I just roll my eyes and start with the ‘experiment’. I feel like I'm in one of those typical science shows where they mix loads of blue and red potions together to create fireworks or something. This is a boring experiment though. Once I've mixed the chemicals together, I have to simply sit here and watch the reaction, writing down a few things that are happening. So far I’ve written ‘bubbles’ on my piece of paper. Right now, I’m sat with my elbow on the desk with my hand holding up my cheek. I almost fall to sleep until I realise Conor's watching me. I just sigh and continue watching the experiment, the whole class in silence.
“Lucy” Conor wispers.
“Conor” I mimic his voice.
“Lucy” he repeats.
“Yes, Conor?” I sigh, getting angrier by the second.
“Lucy”
“WHAT!?” I shout making Conor burst out laughing.
“What’s going on?” the teacher asks.
“Lucy’s just being loud” Conor shrugs. Is he having a laugh?
“Conor won’t stop saying my name” I complain.
“Enough” Mr. Nicholas snaps. “Both of you, see me after school”
Great... I just sigh and put my head on the table. I can feel Conor watching me so I sit up.
“What?” I ask him.
“Why don’t you like me?” he asks.
“I could ask you the same thing” I sigh but he continues staring at me. “Because, Conor, you’re so rude and have no respect. You’re so annoying and you purposely pick on me for no reason. One minute you’re nice to me, like in Music, and the next minute you’re calling me ugly” I breathe.
“You know I didn’t mean it” he mumbles, ignoring the start of my explanation of why I dislike him.
“Do I?” I snap.
“Well I’m telling you, I didn’t mean it” he says.
I moan, “I can’t be bothered Con-“
“You just annoyed me when you bumped into me. And then you spoke to Alex instead of me, when it was me that invited you to sit with us. And then you got on so well with my brother and-“
“Conor shut up. I don’t want to hear it”
“Are we cool then?” he smirks. He looks so hot when he smirks.
I didn’t say that. I hate him. He’s not hot. I realise I’m staring but my throat goes dry and I can’t form words.
“U-um, y-yeah we’re cool” I awkwardly smile back. I couldn’t really argue with him. He’s too persuasive.
At the end of the day I remember that I have to see Mr. Nicholas about Conor’s stupid behaviour. I walk into the class and see Conor already in there. I sit next to him and wait for sir to stop reading his book so he can talk to us. He keeps reading.
“He’s been doing this since I came” Conor says out loud. I just laugh. “Come on” he moans, grabbing my wrist and pulling me out of the classroom. “I’m not staying in there, it’s making me depressed”
I laugh in agreement, “How are you getting home?”
“Walking, you?”
“Same” I smile.
“Why do you and my brother get on so well?” he asks.
“He’s nice to me” I say, but it comes out as more of a question.
“He’s a year younger than you” he frowns.
“What’s that got to do with anything?”
“It’ll never work”
“What?” I frown in confusion.
“You and him, it’ll never work”
“Okay...”
“I don’t even think he likes you”
“Is that why he asked me to stay over on Saturday night?” I smirk.
“What?” he shouts.
“Woah, I’m joking, calm down”
“Fuck off” he moans. “Just stay away from him”
“Conor you’re absolutely pathetic” I mumble and walk faster, trying to get away from him. I swear he’s bipolar. One minute he’s nice to me, and the next minute he just snaps.
