The months passed and it was just three weeks until the summer. Bridget was now engaged to one of the doctors at the hospital who was ten years older than her and had already been married twice. However her father approved, Justice wasn’t stupid and knew it was only because he had money. Justice was praying summer would come sooner but deep down she was nervous. She was lying out on the porch one day when she noticed a mail man, making his way across the field with a small brown envelope. Justice placed her pint of apple juice on the table and stood up.

The post man finally got closer and rudely chucked the letter at Justice and carried on walking. Justice snared her lip and pointed her middle finger up at him and walked into the house. She sat down at the table and slowly pulled the white piece of paper out of the envelope.

She swallowed her breath, and prayed it would be from Sunny. As she pulled it out a hand full of glitter sparkled out of the envelope and on to her palms. She giggled and looked down at the paper.

Dear Justice

It’s Sunny. It’s taken me this long to write, everyday thinking of what I’d say. I’m still lost for words but I miss you Justice, I miss you so much it hurts me. I can’t wait to see you and I promise you, this’ll be a summer you won’t forget. I love you Justice.

Justice wiped away the bitter sweet tears from her eyes and folded the letter up and placed it in her pocket. Suddenly Justice was uplifted, knowing Sunny hadn’t forgotten about her she felt like she could do anything. All the things she had worried about didn’t mean a thing anymore.

Since Sunny had been home, even his family had noticed he had changed. He wasn’t bringing home a different girl every week, he wasn’t so childish in the way he acted and presented himself. Whenever his friends would come and knock on for him, he would refuse to go out and would rather stay in his room listening to Guns n Roses.

Weeks past and Sunny had already packed for the summer down his aunts. He was so excited to see Justice, he couldn’t wait to see her smile and touch her soft pale cheeks. It had crossed his mind a few times, about Sunny taking Justice’s virginity but it didn’t trouble him as much as he had thought. Finally after the long drive he was here, he jumped out of the car and raced across the field. As fast as he could he ran and ran until he could finally see Justice’s house, and suddenly he halted. What if her father was home and beat him again, what if her father saw that he was back and locked Justice up away for the summer.

Justice waited anxiously the whole day, wondering if Sunny was to appear outside her window, grinning like a child. She had taken half the day to get ready and had even put make up on for him. After waiting all day, hopelessly sat in her window Sunny managed to walk down to the ranch and sit under the willow tree, crying over the thought of Sunny. Was he ever going to show?

As the sun slowly disappeared and the stars appeared Justice heard a voice from a distance. She looked across the ranch and over by the shed where she saw Sunny casually leaning against the fence, calling her name. She jumped up in joy and ran to meet him, Sunny too ran as fast as he could, dying to have her in his arms.

Just before their bodies met, both of them froze just for a second, gazing into one another’s eyes. Sunny scooped her up into his arms and kissed her frantically on the lips and neck. Justice cried with her eyes closed, holding him. Sunny slowly lead her down onto the floor and looked down at her.

“I’ve missed you so much Justice.” He cried

Justice grinned and wiped the tears away from his cheeks, “I love you so much Sunny. I love you.” She cried

The pair walked back down to the willow tree and watched the river glisten in the moonlight. Sunny held his girl close, making sure she was warm and not going anywhere. The next day Justice woke up for the first time that year, feeling happy. She quickly got ready and rushed downstairs and into the kitchen where her father was cleaning his guns.
