I paced in my bedroom in a constant rhythm. Back and forth. Back and forth. Odette had long since left, but not before I had pleaded her to no end about helping me.

She seemed quite reluctant at first and I was hurt. She later explained that the sort of enchantments required to get off a spirit that has a strong hold on the body was extremely powerful and dangerous. So much that it could kill the body of the ‘bearer’, the person who is possessed by the spirit. Finally, she obliged seeing how desperate I was.

“But it’s gonna be difficult,” she had warned me before leaving, “I need you to know the risks before we do this.”

Turmoil of fear and bravery wrestled around in my head as I sat down on the edge of my bed. What had I gotten myself into? This was ridiculous. Possessed? The bigger question yet, how?

“I don’t know if I can make it,” I twirled my flame red hair around my fingers repetitively.

“What?” Aaron asked, frustrated, running his hands through his hair.

“I don’t know-“ I was about to repeat my words when I caught Odette’s attention. Her mouth wasn’t moving but her eyes said it all. She wanted me to go.

“Okay, fine, I will go,” I gave in.

“Yes!” Aaron fist-pumped the air. “You won’t regret it!” He bent down to kiss me on the forehead before heading off in the direction of a couple of his buddies.

“You do understand why I want you to go?” Odette inquired.

“No,” I admitted.

“It’s because this entire thing with the spirit and all- it’s wearing you out. I can sense it, and see it as well. You haven’t been sleeping properly either, there are bags under your eyes,” she pointed out, “Maybe a date is what you need to deviate you mind. For just a little bit, you know. No harm done. Enjoy the night and forget the troubles for a while, Aries.”

Listening to her made me realize that maybe she had a point. I had been so preoccupied with the idea of myself being possessed that I had hardly let my attention to anyone or anything else. She was right; I needed a break.
