COMMON HIGHLANDS

---------------------------------

And we talked...

for hours up until...

"I'm surprised you're still single."

When the words left his mouth I cringed. The burn in me began to skate, and I just sat there in silence.

He looked over at me as his eyes narrowed at the change in my demeanor.
"What is it?" He asked.

I swallowed and it felt like glass was crushing down my throat. How could he fix his mouth to say he's surprised that I'm still single when he was all who I wanted at one point.

Did he think that I was joking?

"Why are you surprised?" I asked dryly.

"Look how beautiful you are, I'm not understanding why a man hasn't made you happy yet."

"Why didn't you make me happy yet?" I said quickly. There's my animosity. There's my problem. It was coming out in front of him, and he was comfortable.

"Lacey, I'm not about misleading. You were always my princess regardless."
He smiled and I became livid.

"Why won't you just admit that I hurt you?" I yelled with tear spilled teared eyes. He stared at me for a few moments before answering me, then he pulled me onto his lap and wrapped his arms around me.

"You don't get to sooth me." I say say while releasing toxic emotions.

"I have to." He says calmly.

"Answer me." I demand.

"It wasn't brutal. I just wasn't ready."

I try to quickly lift myself up from him and he holds me down.

"Can you stop and just listen?!" He scoffs.

"I've ran out of time...you know..the the thing that ruined me...us!"

Animosity.

He looked at as if I physically slapped him. I didn't know what was next. Did I take it too far?

"You think that time ruined us?" He asked with deep curiosity with a hint of disappointment behind behind his tone.

"It did."

"It did not!" He scoffed. British sat me up and turned me faced him.

"I know you better than any man, and any friend....

because of time."
