December 8 - Continued

"Ow, Emma. You're hurting my hand!" Sarah hits my side.

"Emma?" I can't look away from him.

"Emma? Are you okay?" Jack becomes worried.

"Huh?" I finally snap out of it.

I look down at Sarah.

"Oh. Sorry sweetie." I release my tight grip.

"Emma. Are you okay?"

I look at Jack as he places his hand on my shoulder.

I hear a growl coming from across the street.

Great. It's begun.

Jack and I both look back at the man. He never takes his eyes off of us.

"I . . . uh . . . I have to go. Come on Sarah." I pull her hand and start pacing back to the car.

"Emma, wait!" Jack starts to follow me.

"I'm sorry. I really have to go."

Jack stops as I turn around to wave goodbye. I can now see the man following me.

I face forward and see Joey walking towards me. I pick up Sarah and walk faster.

"Emma?"

"Hey Emma, have you seen my--" I pull her Joey with me to the car.

"Come on. Let's get out of here!" I can feel him getting closer.

"Emma, what's wrong?"

I keep my eyes straight forward. It's becoming even more difficult. A part of me wants to turn around and pull him close to me. But the other part wants me to get Sarah as far away from him as possible.

I choose Sarah.

"Joey! You owe me 30 bucks!" Anna exclaims as she walks to the car.

I unlock the car and strap Sarah in as fast as I can.

"Emma? Are you okay?" Sarah looks worried.

I smile at her.

Lucky for me, Sarah's car seat is behind mine. I get in the driver's seat and start the car.

"Emma. What's with you?" Joey straps herself in and Anna looks at me, scrunching her nose.

"I just need to get out of here."

I see him standing a few feet from my car. A smile grows on his face as he looks into my eyes.

Drive, Em!

I'm slightly frozen as I look back into his eyes. His gorgeous blue-green eyes. Why did they have to be my two favorite colors?!

Drive, Em!!

For the first time in my life, Fear and Lust are taking over me.

No!

I put the car in drive and pull out of the parking space.

"Emma. What about the others?" Anna asks.

"Jamie has her car." I try to keep my eyes on the road.

Unfortunately, I take a glance in my rearview mirror and see him. He's still standing there watching me drive away.

"Just let them know we left."

"Em. Are you going to tell me what's wrong?" Joey places her hand on my arm.

I slightly release my grip from the wheel. I think I'm going to have a heart attack.

She notices my tenseness. "Em?"

I look at her and give her a small smile.

"I'm fine. I just need to get home."

Anna forgets about my almost panic attack and shows Sarah her new clothes. Sarah has a smile on her face again.

Damn. I must've really freaked her out.

We finally get home. It was pretty silent between me and Joey. One thing about Joey I liked was that she wasn't nosy about my business. She figured I'd tell her when I was ready and she was right. Being my best friend, and beta, Joey was always the first one to know.

I pull Sarah out of the car. She fell asleep on the way home, so I was careful not to wake her.

I get inside the house and take her up to her room. Thankfully, Michael and Jacob were able to put her bed together in record time.

I tuck her in and kiss her head.

"Sorry Sarah."

I walk into my room and start pacing back and forth.

Crap! Crap! Crap!

I'm running my hands through my hair, getting it tangled. Right now I don't care if I have bed hair.

Crap! Crap! Crap!

Why him?! Why him?!

How can I have a criminal for a mate?! How can I allow Sarah to have a possible murderer for a "father?" That's if I allow him to.

OH MY GOD!! Sarah . . .

I fall back on my bed and sigh.

God has given me Sarah. Sarah who has been taking away the pain I've endured for months.

Yes. I believe in God. We may be what you call mythical creatures, but that doesn't mean we can't have faith. My mother wanted me to have someone to believe in, someone to abolish those doubts in my head. I had to struggle to gain the approval from my brothers to become alpha. And then came the death of my grandmother. My mom had me look to God to keep my strength and to have faith.

Mom. Why did you have to leave me? You don't know how much I need you right now. If only you were here to meet Sarah. You'd love her. She's just like grandma.

Joey and Anna walk into my room.

"Alright. What's going on Em?" I lift my head to see Joey standing next to the edge of my bed. "Why were you acting like a paranoid freak earlier?"

"And who was that guy you were staring at?" Anna adds.

I let out a sigh. I had hoped they wouldn't notice him.

"Emma. What's wrong?" Joey sits on my bed.

I sigh again. "I found him."

"Found who?" Anna shadows over me.

I lean up, putting weight on my elbows, and look at them both raising my eyebrow.

I let out a small laugh when I see their 'Oh!' faces. I think they figured it out.

"Emma! That's--That's . . . " Joey can see I'm not happy about it. "Bad . . . ?"

"It's not bad! It's horrible! It's a disaster!" I lay back down in bed.

I whisper. "It's a mistake. It has to be."

"Why is it a mistake, babe?" Anna asks as she sits down next to me.

"He's a murderer . . . " I trail off.

Jason Lune is a criminal and murderer. Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack.

Worst of all.

He's MY mate . . . .
