I stood next to the police station, waiting. It was 11:20 and I prayed that she showed up. I wanted my mum back. I wanted to have her hug me again. But then I don't. Half of me is happy and the other half is furious. She left me with my abusive step father while she probably lived in fucking paradise.
I looked over at the crowd and found Harry staring at me. Ever since we got here at 11, he has never taken his eyes off of me. He has hidden himself in the crowd where the Macy's billboard has a camera that scans the crowd for someone to kiss. Thankfully he hasn't been picked yet.
I played on my phone as I waited, glancing up every few times to see if I saw her. I looked at the time to see it was 11:35 and still nothing. I looked around hard at my surroundings. I found this woman with sunglasses on and long blonde hair. She looked over at me and smiled, taking off her sunglasses.
"Addie," she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. She opened her arms and pulled me into a hug. I stood there for a few seconds, thinking if I really wanted to accept this hug. I finally wrapped my arms around her.
"I've missed you so much darling." She let go of me and she touched my face gently with her fingers, brushing down. "You've become such a beautiful girl."
"Enough of the bullshit. Why do you want me here?" I know I was being harsh but I needed answers.
"Addie, I haven't seen you in forever. Des Styles called me this morning and asked me a whole bunch of questions then finally told me where you were. I have no idea who this man is but he lead me to you."
"Why did you want to meet here?"
"I have quite a few things to tell you. A lot actually."
"And does this have anything to do with you working for Steve?"
"Oh god no. I haven't talked to that bastard since I left him that day. He actually thinks I'm dead." I nodded and looked over at Harry, telling him to come over with my hand. He walked fast and made it to us within a few seconds. "And who is this handsome young man?"
"I'm Harry, Addie's boyfriend."
"Nice to meet you."
"She wants to talk," I mumbled, still not believing that she has nothing to do with Steve.
"Okay. Let's go to my dad's building."
"That sounds great," she smiled. Harry grabbed my hand and held it tightly as we walked the few blocks to Harry's dad's building.
We finally made it there after awkwardly having my mum follow us. Harry took us up to one of the conference rooms there was on Harry's dad's floor for his business.
We walked into the very large conference room and I took a seat across from my mom who already sat down.
"I'll leave you two alone," Harry said, closing the door.
"No, it's okay," I argued, wanting him to be with me. He just nodded and sat down on the couch that was near my mom and I at the table.
"So I'm guessing you have a lot of questions and I will answer every single one but I was wondering if you read the letter I left you in that box, yet?"
"Yes I've read it," I nodded.
"Great! I want to start with your brother. I'm sorry that I haven't told you this before but yes, you do have a brother and yes, I know where he is."
"Where-" she put up her finger to silence me.
"He has been deported over here when he was in foster care and is currently living in Chicago, Illinois. He is going to college and getting his doctorate to become a psychologist. I have already talked to him about you and meeting you and he is willing to take a trip over here to meet you. We set up a date today after Des called and it will be in exactly a week."
