It's been two days already and Harry still hasn't come back. He has one more day until I leave and go looking for him. I don't care what happens, I just want to know he's safe.
I checked my phone for the millionth time in one minute. He hasn't texted or called either which is worrying me to no end. "Addie," I hear his mother call my name. We have become close in just two days. She replaced the void my mother left. She was kind and loving and she made a damn good meal.
"Yes Anne?"
"Dinner is ready," she hummed.
"Okay." I got up from the couch and walked into the kitchen, grabbing a plate and scooping up some casserole she made. It smelled delicious.
"What is this?"
"My broccoli casserole. It was one of Harry's favorites besides my spaghetti."
I took a bite and instantly fell in love. This tasted like heaven. "This is really good Anne," I said with my mouth full.
"Thanks."she smiled wide. She looked so much like Harry. God do I miss him so much. I missed the way his lips tasted and his scent. His arms were so welcoming and open. I just wanted to know if he was safe or not.
"Anne?"
"Yes dear?"
"Can you tell me about Harry's childhood?"
"Oh I would love to." She got up and put her plate in the sick after rinsing it off. "Harry was a sweet little boy and quite the charmer. He would always sweep the girls at school off their feet. When he was about 16, he started going to parties and having sex. I found condom wrappers in his jean pockets when I did his laundry. That's when things started to go down hill. He would stop coming home for a good week or two and when he was home, he was so rude to me and his father. Before, he absolutely adored his father. He wanted to be just like him. His grades slipped and he dropped out of high school when he was 17. It was crazy to think that this little boy that loves school and singing in the bath tub turned out to be a school drop out and having sex every other night. I didn't even think he would actually find love. But he did. And I'm so glad he did."
"He's brought it up before and you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to but what happened between you guys? I've asked him about his family but he just ignored the subject."
"When I got cancer, that's when things got awful around here. My husband just left me and Harry didn't take that very lightly. He wanted to kill my husband for what he did. One night my husband came back to grab the rest of his things and Harry just got home. He saw his father in our bedroom grabbing his stuff and walked up to him, beating him senseless. With a couple more punches, his father would be dead. After that, I didn't see Harry for a good year. He finally came back and gave me money for my treatment. That was just two years ago. I knew he was dealing drugs before to get me money and now I know he's in the fighting business. He knew how to make money but not in the best way. But now I'm better and I know he stopped that fighting business. Thank gosh. I didn't want him to work like that."
"So he's still mad about his father leaving you?"
"I'm pretty sure. He doesn't want to forgive him. I have and I've told him countless times that he should but he can't bring himself to."
"Oh. Well has he seen him since?"
"I don't think so. But I hope he forgives him soon."
"Me too."
We sat there in silence, me finishing my meal until she decided to speak. "I'm so glad Harry has you. You are an amazing girl and I'm happy that he found someone like you."
