Walking down the hall with Nick is a lot different than walking down the hall alone. When I walk alone, I am invisible, it’s like no one sees me. But when I walk down the hall with Nick, I get glares from a lot of girls. I know they are just mad because Nick doesn’t follow them and give them all of his attention, like some of the other guys at our school do. But Nick isn’t like that; he knows a lot of people just want to be his friend now that he is popular. But he isn’t mean to those people either. Everyone is congratulating nick for his big win this weekend. He just smiled and thanked them.
Nick had gone to his cousins wedding and on Sunday, and I just stayed home watching movies, and eating junk food. Nick told me that the wedding was pretty boring; of course he would say that even if it was super fun. And of course I told him that I had a good Sunday and did lots of fun stuff, but I think he knew I was lying.

I stood out by nicks car and waited for him to get done changing form the football game. It was the beginning of November, so it was pretty chilly out; Nick had forgotten to give me the key before the game so I just was standing by his car. I could have gone into the school, but I was too lazy to walk there and walk back so I just decided to wait. I saw nick running toward the car, he must have realized he forgot to give me the keys. I could tell he was really excited, the last football game of the season just ended and Nick brought our team the final win of the season! I knew there was going to be a huge party tonight, and I told Nick to go. He said that he wouldn’t go without me, and I Hate parties. I went to one with Nick after his first football game, and I hated it, so we didn’t go to another one. But tonight, Nick and his team won, and the party was practically for him… so how could I say no. I guess I am going to a party tonight.

We got to the party after we stopped at our houses and changed. It was really weird for me that we weren’t going to be staying in tonight. As soon as we walked in the house the smell of sweat, alcohol, and pizza hit me like a brick wall, it smelled really badly. I looked at nick and saw he had his nose scrunched up a bit too, looks like the smell is getting to him too. I looked around and there were people everywhere. Some of them were dancing, some were talking and drinking, and some of them were even making out, like seriously gross. Most of the girls were either in really short shorts or skirts, and really tight shirts, it looked like their clothes had shrunk in the drier. I was just wearing a t-shirt and jeans. Maybe I was the weird one, I mean all of them were dressed the same, I was the different one. I recognized a lot of the football players, because I have seen most of them at Nick’s practices or the actual games. I looked over at Nick and gave him a small smile trying to let him know I wanted to be here, even though I didn’t. We walked further into the house toward the kitchen, as we were walking a lot of people were excited that Nick actually showed up to one of these parties. None of them really noticed me, not that I am surprised.
We got to the kitchen and got a drink, non-alcoholic of course, I don’t drink and neither does nick. We each got a Pepsi and walked back towards the front room where the music was coming from. There was a small 2 person couch and me and nick walked towards it and sat down. As soon as we did sit down 3 girls walked up and started talking to nick. One of them asked him to dance and he looked at her and then at me. I didn’t know why he looked at me, but there was something in his eyes that told me he didn’t want to dance with her. So I did the only thing I could think of, I wrapped my arm around his and looked up at the girl and smiled a not so nice smile. I think she got the idea, because her eyes widened and she glared at me before she walked away. Her friends looked at me and nick and rolled their eyes and walked away too. Once they were gone I unhooked our arms and look up at nick, wondering what he was thinking. He looked at me and smiled “ah, thank you for that, I really didn’t want to dance with any of them.” “That’s what best friends are for,” I said with a huge smile on my face.
