The King was sitting on his throne.
Soon, this room will be filled with people, ranging from peasants to nobles who want an audience with the king. Those who will plea for help or for something else.
Arthur's mind was set on his manservant. Will Gwaine be able to persuade Merlin not to go? Will he be enough to change the young man's mind? Arthur thought that if Gwaine was able to convince Merlin to stay, than he may not mean as much to Merlin as the lad meant to him. Merlin was his best friend, was he not Merlin's?
Arthur's thoughts were interrupted when the throne room doors burst open. For a moment Arthur hoped it would be Merlin coming back, but his hopes were crushed when it was not his idiot manservant, instead, it was a knight."Sire!"
"Sir Leon." Arthur Acknowledged. He noticed the knight was panting heavily.
"There are many civilians from the lower towns trying to get your attention."
"What for?" Arthur asked. He was curious to know what could possibly be so important for a lot of his people to have come to the castle for their king.
"All we know is that there was and may still be a fire in the lower towns. Some claim it to be... sorcery."
"Sorcery!" Arthur cried.
"Yes sire, and from some witnesses, there seems to be a message left for you."
"A message... for me?"
"Yes sire."
"And, what does this message say?"
"That, I do not know."
"Very well." Arthur said, now slumping back into his chair. "When you find out what 'this message' is, please report back to me."
"Of course, your majesty." Sir Leon said with a bow.
Sir Leon was about to leave when Arthur's voice stopped him.
"Leon!" The knight paused, the king didn't say 'sir.' Formalities were off.
"Yes, Arthur?" Leon said as he turned back around to face his king.
Arthur got up from his chair and started walking towards the knight.
"Take me to the lower towns." He demanded.
"Excuse me?"
"Take me, to the, lower towns." Arthur said again but slower.
"But Arthur, it isn't safe."
Arthur abruptly stopped at Leon's side and turned his head to face him.
"Lots of people, my people, came to this castle, all the way from the lower towns to tell me something. Obviously this is serious enough for me to see for myself. Especially if this involves sorcery and a message for me." And with that, the king left the throne room and a worried Leon.————————————————————
Merlin's face paled as he read the words over.
'Turn over Emrys before night or a man dies.'
His own hand made it to his chest as he clutched onto the fabric of his tunic. His breathing hitched and he started to back up.
"Emrys?" Gwaine asked confused, "who's Em-" the handsome knight turned to his right but to his surprise, his friend wasn't there. "Merlin?" he asked to the empty space where the lad once was. He looked frantically around the area before his eyes finally settled on the raven haired boy. This boy stared in horror at the message on the ground, a hand clutching his tunic, right over where his heart should be. When Gwaine observed the boy more closely, he noticed that he was shaking in fear.
