Everything hurts. Everything! My arms, my legs, my stomach, my throat, my head. Everything. The cut in my shoulder is still bleeding, soaking my shirt with blood.
I hear something. 'What do I hear?' The light thumping of walking. Craig's walking down the isle. 'Who's turn is it now?' I quickly go through the cell order in my head.
Oh no!
Nita!
.....
"Are you okay Nita?" I ask during our free hour."I'm fine," she responds with a wilted smile. "Although my hand hurts."
She pulls her hand out of the pocket of her yellow tattered hoodie and shows us. It has a long deep cut in it.
"Ow!" Alex exlaims when she sees it. "That must hurt!"
"Well it could be worse!" Nita smiles. She always tries to find happiness in the worst sinarios. Her grin spreads throughout us and soon we're all smiling with her.
We are outside this week looking for escapes in the electric fence. So far there have been none.
"Wait a sec!" Ella stops and stares at a part of the fence slightly hidden in brush. Picking up a stick, she walks to it. She throws the stick at the fence. The fence does nothing! It's broken!
We've found a way out.
The 10 minute bell rings.
.....
The bangs of the cells shutting sounds more distance than usual. My heart is beating with anticipation. We are so close! We are almost free!
Craig walks by my cell to lock it and looks at me with fierce eyes. He looks angry, then again he always looks angry.
But he looks more so.
I feel like I am being torn apart from the inside just looking into those hazel holes. Like he is opening me up and reading my thoughts like a book.
He turns the key locking me in and walks away.
.....
I can't sleep I'm so excited! I wonder if the others can?"Drew!" I hear a groggy eagerness in Ethan's voice.
"Ya?" I hear the same quality in mine.
"What are we going to do when we get out?" I get up and walk to the corner closest to his cell.
"I'm not sure. But we'll figure it out." I respond with confidence." All I know is we're getting as far away From here as possible!"
"What are you guys talking about?" A curious voice across from me asks. I look at the speaker and see a girl. Her brown eyes searching my face.
"Nothing." I say.
What are we going to do with the other 15 kids?
