Warning: anxiety attacks in this chapter
----------"The first thing you should know, is that I have 5 brothers." You nearly choked on your spit. 5 brothers?! Whoa, it must not have been very lonely growing up in that house. You nodded to let him know you were listening.
"They...they aren't very fond of me...at least they don't act like it. They often call me painful, and ignore me a lot of the time. U-uh...I think I'll just get to the point. The day you saw me crying they uh, they said some things to me that really got to me. I don't think they meant any harm by it, but it got to me. I was probably overreacting."
You felt pretty bad for Karamatsu. The thought of all his brothers treating him like that made you feel kinda sad. But then again, they were brothers, and having a sibling yourself, you could definitely understand fighting sometimes. Still though, if you or your sister ever said something hurtful to the other, you were quick to apologize. You hated making people feel bad. Clearly whatever was said to Karamatsu made him feel pretty bad. Deciding not to ask what it was that they said, (since it really wasn't much of your business anyways) you just listened to him rant.
Apparently he still lived with all his brothers, and his parents. Well, not like you could judge, you were kinda in the same boat there.
As he explained all of his problems, you started to actually consider what he was saying. What did his brothers mean by "painful" exactly? Did they mean something along the lines of "cringy"? Either way, nothing about this man made you hurt, or feel pained. Perhaps you were just missing something?
"Eh..." Karamatsu mumbled softly, "I'm sorry to have burdened you with this whole rant...I shouldn't be dropping all my problems on my Karamatsu Girl~" He replaced his sad expression with one of confidence, and a smile. You've faked enough smiles in your life to know that it wasn't a genuine smile. Honestly you weren't too sure how to comfort him, so you did the first thing that came to mind, and you put a hand on his head and give him a pat, and smiling reassuringly. "Um, don't worry Karamatsu-san, you aren't painful to me."
You managed to say with a smile. Honestly your were still pretty confused about the term "painful" but you still figured what you said was appropriate.A pink blush spread over Karmatsu's face and you started to blush when you realized your hand was still on his head. Quickly you withdrew your hand, glancing to the side awkwardly.
"Er, what I mean is, uh, you seem like a pretty cool guy, I don't see why anyone would u-uh, call you painful.." Yeah you sounded like an idiot stuttering like that. You suddenly worried if your stuttering made it harder for him to understand you. Every time you spoke in Japanese you worried if people could understand you. It was just one of those little things that gave you anxiety. When you saw him smile softly your anxiety calmed down quite a bit and you sighed. Good, you said the right things. It felt good making him feel better. He clears his throat and looks at you with a slight grin, his cheeks still pink.
"Eheh, thank you Y/n-chan. No one has said such kind things to me before."Okay that kinda broke your heart. What you said wasn't even that nice, it just wasn't mean. This man had a lot more to him than you originally thought. He was going through some emotional-ass stuff. The fact that he trusted some stranger like you enough to tell you his problems made you feel a bit guilty. Why you felt guilty you don't really know. But you did know one thing. You much preferred his smile over his sobs. Perhaps it wouldn't be too bad to...become his friend? Yeah y/n you promised you wouldn't get close to people, but this would be more for his benefit. Karamatsu needs someone there for him, and oddly enough you felt you were kinda obligated to since you got yourself into this mess.
"I'm glad I could make you feel better."
