Bethany's P.O.V

When I got home, I couldn't stop thinking about what he said.

If it means getting you to remember me...

Remember him? He couldn't possibly be...no he couldn't. I shook off the idea and made dinner.

~
When school was over, I went straight home. The library was under construction for the next 2 days. But  of course, Maxwell followed me. I went inside my house first to make sure my mom wasn't home, then brought Maxwell inside. As soon as I shut and locked the door, I began talking to him.

"Maxwell, you said something yesterday and I want to know what you meant."

"Well that depends on what you're talking about."

"You said something about me remembering you...?"

"Oh that! Yeah I meant what I said. I'll keep following you until you remember me."

"But I don't."

"Then try."

"I don't wan-"

The door opened. It was my mother. She looked tired and exhausted. When she saw Maxwell, she threw her stuff down and dragged him outside. I could them whisper-yelling at each other.

Were they talking about me?

It sounded like they were. But I didn't want to eavesdrop on them, so I began cooking dinner.

I was getting started as they walked in. Mom looked at me and smiled.

"Bethany, dear, you didn't tell me that you had a boyfriend come over!"

"He's n-"

"Would you like to stay for dinner?"

I looked at him. He looked at me. I shook my head, he smiled.

"Actually, yes. I would be delighted to."
My mom beamed with happiness.

"Hurray! Over dinner we can discus the future wedding-"

"MOM!!"

"Oh Bethany, be nice to your future husband!"

Maxwell laughed. "I would be delighted to be your son-in-law someday, Ms. Richardson."

"Please call me, Samantha."

As I was cooking, Maxwell and my seemed to be getting along well. But they were talking in secret. I really wish they didn't do that, so I took a break and went towards them in the living room. I hid behind the couch and carefully eavesdropped.

"Max, after dinner, I want you to leave. Go straight home and pack your stuff."

"No! I will not leave! I want—no—need Bethany to remember me! I haven't seen her in 12 years and now you're pulling me away from her?! I have searched for her all this time and I won't lose her again!"

"After what your father did, I don't want her getting hurt-"

"You think that I'll become like him?! A drunken man who lost all his money in gambling?! A father who gave his son's one and only love amnesia?! You think I would become like him?!"

"Well you are his own flesh and blood!"

I couldn't understand what they were talking about. But I feeling what it was. And I didn't like it. I got up and snuck back into the kitchen.

Maxwell's P.O.V

"Yet I have most of my mother's within me. I will never turn out like him because I love her! When you love someone, you would never hurt them!"

Samantha looked at me. Wondering if I was serious. Then I realized what I said.

...I love her!...

Is that what this feeling is? Love? Before Samantha could respond, the oven dinged and Bea yelled.

"Dinner's ready!"

Samantha yelled back. "We'll be there in a sec!" Then looked at me. "Even if you love her, it doesn't mean that she'll love you back. Once her memory returns, we'll see if she loves you. But I hope she doesn't. I'm going to keep a close eye on you, so you better watch out."

We walked out and into the kitchen. A wonderful aroma filled the air.

My Bea made roasted chicken

My Bea made roasted chicken. I was so happy. We sat down and dug in. It was savory and it tasted amazing! But no one said a word (except "Thank you.") over dinner. It was just silent and awkward.

Samantha kept glancing at me. I wanted to talk to Bea. Bea kept her head down and ate.

"So Maxwell, if you bring any flower to a date, what would it be?"

I looked at Samantha. Was she serious? It took a minute to think. I then looked at Bea. Her head rose up and looked at me. Our eyes connected.

"I would bring a tulip because it's beautiful inside and out. Just like you Bea."

I winked her. She looked back down. Trying to hide her flushed face. I heard her whisper.

'Well tulips are my favorite flower...'

"I'm sorry, what did you say Bea?"

"Nothing."

"Mhmm. Samantha, I'm afraid I have to go now. My mom is waiting for me at home. I'll see at school tomorrow, tulip."

Bea nearly choked on her food. It was so hard not to laugh.

"Alright then. Do you want me to drop you off?"

"No it's alright. Thanks though. Bye, tulip."

She just waved at me. Not even looking at me. But her face was red. I packed up and left.

When I got home, I kept thinking about the conversation I had outside with Samantha.

'Maxwell, what the heck are you doing here?!'

'I'm here because I found my one and only!'

'You shouldn't be here!'

'I'm trying to get her to remember me!'

'How do you know that?!'

'A little birdie told me!'

After that, I can't believe she told me to pack up and leave! I lost Bea once, and I'll never loose her again.
