(BTW ALL OF THESE R A JOKE. MY FRIEND WRITES THEM). I don't think this should happen.
Troye Sivan is a first-year choir student at the prestigious Medway High School in Medway, Ma. He has been singing from a young age and aspires to become one of the greats like Taylor Swift. Famed conductor Christopher Jacobs discovers Troye practicing in the music room late one night and eventually invites him into his studio band as the alternative for lead singer Connor Franta. Mr. Jacobs is abusive toward his students, mocking and insulting them; when the band rehearses the Amy Winehouse piece "Rehab" and Troye struggles to keep the beat, Mr. Jacobs hurls a chair at him, slaps him, and berates him in front of the class.
At a singing competition, Troye misplaces Connor's lyric sheet. Since Connor cannot sing without it, Troye steps in, telling Mr. Jacobs that he can perform "Rehab" from memory. After a successful performance, Mr. Jacobs promotes him to lead singer. Soon after, Mr. Jacobs recruits Mark Fischbach, the lead singer from Troye's former lower-level class. Troye believes Fischbach is the less talented singer, and is infuriated when Mr. Jacobs promotes him to lead. Determined to impress Mr. Jacobs, Troye practices until his throat bleeds and breaks up with his boyfriend Tyler Oakley, believing he will hold him back.
Mr. Jacobs tearfully reveals in class that a talented former student of his, Sean McLoughlin, has died in a car accident. The choir rehearses "Stronger Than Me", but Mark struggles with the beat. Mr. Jacobs puts Troye, Mark and Connor through gruelling auditions until nearly 2:00 a.m. while the rest of the class waits outside. After kicking furniture and throwing instruments across the room, Mr. Jacobs gives the position to Troye.
On the way to the competition, Troye's bus breaks down. He rents a car but arrives late, and realizes he left his lyric sheet at the rental office. After a dressing-down from Mr. Jacobs, Troye races back to the rental office to retrieve the lyric sheet, but his car is broadsided by a semi-trailer. He crawls from the wreckage and arrives on stage bloody and injured. When he struggles to sing "Stronger Than Me" due to his injuries, Mr. Jacobs halts the performance to tell Troye he is "done". Troye attacks Mr. Jacobs in front of the audience and is dismissed from Medway High School.
Troye meets with a lawyer representing the parents of Sean McLoughlin. He explained that Sean in a car accident while suffering from an anxiety attack cause by his time as Mr. Jacobs's student. Sean's parents want to prevent Mr. Jacobs from teaching again. Troye agrees to testify on the condition of anonymity, and Mr. Jacobs is fired from Medway High School.
Months later, Troye has abandoned singing and is working in a restaurant while applying to different colleges. One evening he discovers Mr. Jacobs performing at a jazz club. After the performance, Mr. Jacobs invites Troye to drink with him. He explains that he pushes his students beyond the expected so that they might achieve greatness and become the next Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston. He invites Troye to replace his current singer at the upcoming Medway Pride Day with his band. Troye agrees. He invites Tyler to the performance, but he is in a new relationship.
On stage at Pride Day, moments before the performance is about to start, Mr. Jacobs reveals that he knows Troye testified against him, and leads the choir with a piece Troye does not know. Unable to follow the cues without a lyric sheet, Troye leaves the stage humiliated. After being consoled by his father, he defiantly returns to the microphone, begins singing "Stronger Than Me", and cues the choir to follow his lead. Infuriated, Mr. Jacobs reluctantly follows suit. As the song ends and the lights go down, Troye continues his own solo. Mr. Jacobs is taken aback but begins to guide Troye. The two share an ambiguous look before Mr. Jacobs cues the choir finale.
