Natsu
~"Can you guess why I have called you here?" I could see Lucy directly through the window behind him. He didn't give me a chance to answer.
"Look at this newspaper article," he said throwing a rolled up paper at me. He continued pinching the bridge of his nose as I unrolled it and looked at the headline page.
"Igneel Dragneel and William Strauss' businesses merge; as a result, Dragneel's only son, and Strauss' youngest daughter are engaged. 1-31-16."
"Wait," the date it was published was two weeks before the ball, "the papers knew before Lisanna and I?!""That's not the point! Look at this one," he said, throwing another rolled up paper at me. I opened it to read the headline;
"The only son of Igneel Dragneel is engaged to the youngest daughter of William Strauss, Lisanna Strauss-- but is currently involved with ONE. LUCY. HEARTFILIA. 2-15-16. Seen leaving together at the Valentines Day ball."
The article continued to go on about how Lisanna, Lucy, and I are now in a "love triangle".
"How dare you, Natsu?! Your engaged to Lisanna, and you go and get yourself a girlfriend? Does that seem smart to you at all?" he yelled. I glanced through the window behind him to see Lucy sitting there and prayed she didn't hear him. He caught me looking, and turned to see what had my attention.
"Are you KIDDING me? You brought her here?!" He started to pace, "let's hope the--" the sound of the doorbell rang through the house-- "newspaper doesn't know. Shit!" He started walking toward the door.
"Father, let me deal with them, I started this mess--" he whipped around.
"No! You need to go tell that girl to leave, now!" he said, walking to the door.
"But Father--"
"From here on out... you are not to be seen with her. Go tell her, now, and then--then go to your room," he said, the he went to go answer the door. I felt a pang of sadness but I didn't question him again.
(Time jump; A few hours later in Natsu's room)
I sat on my bed, wondering if I had done the right thing when I told Lucy to leave. My mind kept telling me, "of course! Your main focus now is Lisanna. You two are the glue to your father's businesses merging", but my heart had no idea. I felt really bad remembering the look she gave me, as if I was a complete stranger, but I hoped she'd understand.
My train of thought was broken when Wendy walked in the room. She came over to me and hugged me.
"I'm sorry Dad won't let you see Lucy-chan right now," she said.
"Nah, it's alright. It's not your fault," I paused, "it's mine."
"Well, I've got a cake in the oven and a play date with Chelia. Feel better, Brother." And with that she walked out.
Then I got an idea-- a stupid one, but it was all I got. I looked out the window, and saw that our front lawn was still covered in news reporters. My dad was still busy trying to shoo them away. I smirked grabbed my phone, packed a bag and ran downstairs.
When I got to the kitchen Wendy was icing a freshly baked cake. I scared her and she almost knocked the cake off the counter.
"Natsu! Why'd you come bolting in here like that?! Is everything okay?" I began searching the drawers for a flashlight. "What are you looking for?" she asked, staring at me like I was crazy. I found it!
"Wendy, can you promise me something?" I asked. She nodded.
"Don't tell Dad where I'm going," I said, sternly."Wait! Where are you-- you're not going to Lucy's are you?! You know that's the first place he'll look!"
"Of course I know! I'm not going to Lucy's. I'm going to _____. He'll never look for me there."

Lucy
~"Ma Ri, he hasn't even called," I said. She walked back over to my bed with a plate of fresh cookies. I took one and munched on it while staring at my phone. She was about to say something when my screen lit up with a picture of Natsu. She smiled and mouthed "answer it", so I did.
"Hello, Natsu?" There was a few seconds of silence on the other side.
"Hi Lucy. I'm sorry I didn't call sooner, my front yard is swamped with reporters. I bet yours is too," he said quietly.
"I wouldn't know. I've been in my room for the past few hours. I'll check--" I looked out my window, and sure enough-- "wow, when did they get here?" I looked at Ma Ri who just shrugs.
"I don't know, but I am guessing shortly after today's paper was printed."
"Why, what's the paper say?"
"Uh... it's not important... just some stupid rumors.... Anyway, that's not the only reason I called. I called to tell you that I'm running away," he said.
"What?! Where are you going?! I can't let you do that! I'm coming to get you right now--"
"No Lucy! It's too dangerous to be seen in public together right now. When I call you tomorrow I'll tell you where I am. Don't come looking for me, okay? Promise me, Lucy," he said, his tone stern and truthful. My eyes flooded with tears.
"Okay, I promise." He gave a small sigh.
"Thank you," he paused, "I love you, Luce." A small smile tugged at the corners of my mouth.
"I love you too."
