Piper led Night down into the the city, stopping at the first house. Above the house was a sign that read "Publick Occurrences", which Night recalled in his history lessons at school was the title of the first newspaper ever published in Boston, and he smiled.
There was a young girl sitting on the step just outside the house, and as she saw Piper approaching, she jumped up and ran to the woman. He had the same black hair and brown eyes as Piper, and the resemblance could mean only that this girl was her sister or relative.
"Piper!" the young girl called out.
"Hey, kiddo!" Piper bent down to ruffle the girl's hair. "How're the paper sales?"
"Not bad. But I'm telling you, that printing press is about to go."
"Eh, you worry too much. You've said that before but the old girl still keeps running, right? Now come on, into bed, it's well after midnight."
"Fine, but who's the guy?" the girl looked up to Night.
"This is Night, he's a new friend. This is his first time in Diamond City. Night, this is my little sister, Nat."
"You've never been to Diamond City? What, you been living under a rock, mister?" Nat asked, and Piper just laughed.
"Bed, now."
"Aw, fine," Nat whined before running off inside.
"She's a handful sometimes, but I still love her."
Night smiled and nodded.
Inside the shack was a couch, a coffee table, a fridge and various other pieces of furniture Night wasn't sure if people would still have. There was a little back area that was clearly Nat's room, judging by the toys scattered in the doorway. Upstairs must have been Piper's room.
"Hope you don't mind sleeping on the couch, Blue?" Piper sat down, looking at Night, who was slightly confused at the nickname.
"N-not at all. But.. Are you sure it's okay for me to stay here? I don't want to be a problem."
"Of course. I've met enough people out here to know who to watch out for, and you don't exactly strike me as a bad person, Blue. But there's one condition, okay?"
"A condition?"
"Yeah, you can stay here tonight, but you owe me an interview," Piper didn't blink as she watched Night, waiting for a response.
"An interview? What kind of interview?" Night was rather shocked.
"I'm not stupid, I know where you're from. Why do you think I'm calling you Blue? Those bright blue Vault jumpsuits. I know you're not wearing it right now, but that Pip-Boy on your arm, and the fish-out-of-water look? Dead giveaways."
Night looked down automatically at the computerized device on his wrist, suddenly understanding.
"Anyway, I want it all. Your life story in print. I need to make a statement to Diamond City, that there's a world beyond these walls, and you seem like the perfect person to do that," Piper smiled.
Night stepped back, shaking his head. He didn't want to begin explaining he was two centuries old, and that the world he came from was the complete opposite of what this one was. He had barely had a chance to comprehend it himself, without sharing it with a stranger.
"Come on, please?" Piper begged. "I promise we can take our time. I get it must be hard to come out of a Vault into the Commonwealth."
"You have no idea."
"Look, if you do the interview, I'll tell you someone you can see to try and find the person you're looking for," Piper jumped up.
"Wait, you can?"
"Of course, I have this friend, you see.. But I need to know more before I can help. So what do you say, will you help me out?"
