Skylar Pov.

I was dreaming... For once, and it wasn't a nightmare, Kayden was chasing me and I felt laughter bubble up from my chest " Kay, no please , I surrender..." it was a memory of when we were five, I ran into my mothers arms and buried my head in her arms " mommy..., Kay's gonna tickle me to death" I looked up into the smiling face of my mother, she had full lips, high cheekbones and dark tanned skin, probably from our Cherokee ancestors, the same deep blue eyes as mine looked down at me, my mothers eyes crinkling with laugh lines.

I heard my name being called by a familiar voice,

" Skylar, Skylar wake up, Hurry... "

I opened my eyes and thick smoke entered my lungs, I coughed to clear them but the smoke was coming from outside my cell door, which was swinging wide open.

I flung myself into the corner searching for the guards who must have opened the door.

" Calm down child, it's just us, nobody is going to hurt you. "

It was the same voice that woke me up, Sally's voice.

" What's going on? " I asked timidly, the smoke burning my eyes.

" We are being rescued."

It was Mikes voice that answered me and I looked over to where he was standing by the cell door.

I heard footsteps once again down the corridor but these were heavier, faster.

I tried to hide further into the wall when I saw a large figure block the light of the open doorway.

" We have searched every rotten corner of this godforsaken maze, there are no others down here, looks like she's the only one."

His voice was rough from the smoke and I cowered away from him, my eyes studied his movements, he held himself with the power of authority but his face was kind and had smile lines and laugh lines. he made no threatening moves towards me and I relaxed a little bit more.

" Alpha, so glad you came, I don't think she can walk all the way out of here." Sally nodded towards me as she spoke to the Alpha.

She turned to me and asked

" Were there any others who came with you?"

I hung my head, remembering how my cousin Mark had also been taken and how he had comforted me in th truck, there was that little boy, Troy, who was also taken. The scientists had told me how they didn't survive the first round of testing...

" Yes, but they didn't survive."

I looked down sadly, tears brimming my eyes as the room fell silent. I started fiddling with the chains on my wrists, I had become so used to them, I couldn't believe we were being rescued, after all this time.

" The men are waiting by the north corridor for us, we must leave now. "

The Alpha said to Sally and Mike.
