Chapter 11: The Calm Before the Storm
Marcus's POV
It's been about three months since I took Charlotte to the hospital, and, so far, Charlotte seemed happy..well, as happy as she could possibly be under the circumstances. She's kept resell busy talking to her mom and Jackie and I know she's been on the phone with her sister in law a lot.
I've visited her almost every day, keeping an eye on things, and Eddie visits with Melissa and Jackie every once in a while to check for hidden injuries. As far as I can tell, there have been no other problems. I'm glad that Charlotte hasn't been abused, but I'm afraid that she'll change her mind about leaving her husband. I don't want her to think that just because he's been nice it doesn't mean he won't hurt her. Benjamin did the same thing to Brooke; lulling her into a false sense of security and then snapping when she thought she was in the clear.
I didn't mind spending so much time watching out for Charlotte. I know she felt bad about it and was constantly telling me to take a day off and spend time with my friends, but I never listened. She and Cara were far more important then getting drunk with my friends. I really liked Charlotte (my feelings for her got stronger everyday) and I took every opportunity see her. She just knew me do well. She could practically read my mind at times; it was impossible trying t hide anything from her, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Our relationship us moving really slow but I think she's really warming up to me even more. I don't think she realizes it though. Sometimes I'll catch her watching me with a soft look in her eyes and I know she let's her guard down with me. She feels safe with me.
The only problem being with Charlotte so much was that I constantly ran the risk of being caught there by her husband. There have been a couple of close calls before, but I've always managed to get out in time.
I've also had trouble finding work because I've been with Charlotte so much. I had an interview lined up a couple of days ago at the high school by Charlotte's but I missed it because I lost track of time playing with Cara, not that it's her fault, of course. I loved Cara as if she were my own child. For now I was content working at The Cavern with Darren and John, I just couldn't stay there for ever.
------
"So how are you and Lisa? She pregnant yet?" I asked John as we worked another Bachelor's party at the Cavern. John only really worked here every once in a while for extra cash. He had a pretty good job at a printing company; he's worked there for years and made enough for Lisa and himself, but I know Lisa and John have been trying for a baby since they got married six years ago. I really hoped they would get pregnant. I've met Lisa once or twice and she was a sweet heart. She would make a great mom.
John shook his head sadly for a moment. "Not yet. She's been a bit depressed lately because of it. She's getting tired of trying. She spends a lot of time on the phone with her mom and my sister in law. They keep her happy. We're still young so we have time, but if we don't get pregnant, naturally, soon then I want to go to another doctor. The last one said we were both fine but maybe she was wrong."
I nodded sympathetically and patted his shoulder. "I'm sure everything will be fine. You guys will get there. Maybe it's just not your time yet. And there's always adoption."
"I've thought about adoption, too. I would love to adopt, but I know Lisa wants a baby of our own first." John sighed and then poured a shot of tequila for a man waving at us from down the bar.
"So what's been going on with you man? You finally gonna tell me who that mystery chick you've been helping out is?" John asked, smiling at me.
I had mentioned Charlotte and Cara to John last month and he's been hounding me for her name ever since. I didn't tell him all the details, just that she was having problems at home and I was helping her out. It wasn't my place to go around talking about Charlotte's problems with my friends.
"her names Charlotte Monroe. Pretty right?" I smiled and turned to tend to a customer, not seeing John's reaction.
"Hey," I said as I turned around. "Isn't it funny how you guys have the same last name?"
"Yea...weird," John mumbled.
"I really like her," I continued, pouring a shot of Vodka. "If she ever leaves her ass of a husband I would marry her in a heart beat."
"Really?"
"Absolutely."
"Wow, sounds like you really like her," John said. We didn't say much more after that because a bunch of guys had started crowding the bar. Ident Charlotte a couple of quick texts, just to check on her, through out the night and before I went to bed. I couldn't wait to see heroin the morning. Everything was going perfectly.

Nicholas's POV
I was on my way to work when when my phone rang. "Hello?" I answered.
"Nick? It's John."
"Hey man!" I said. I hadn't talked to my brother in a while and I was happy to hear from him. "What's up? How's Lisa?"
"She's alright," John said. "Listen, I need to tell you something."
I frowned at the urgency in my brothers tone. "What is it? Is dad okay?" my dad had been sick the last few days and I was a little worried about him.
"Dad's fine, it's about Charlotte."
"What about her?" I questioned, confused.
"Okay, now don't get mad at me, but I was working at the Cavern last night with Marcus, you know, my friend?" I nodded. I had heard about the other bartender from my brother a couple of times but we had never met. "Well, for the last few months he told me he's been helping some girl with her family problems, and that he really likes her. Like enough to get married."
"Yea, and?" I didn't understand what this had to do with my wife.
"Last night he told me her name. It's Charlotte Monroe."
I gasped and nearly dropped my phone. That bitch was seeing some guy behind my back!"
[A/N: finally got a chapter up. I bet none of you realized that it was Nicky's brother that worked at the cavern! So I'm not sure how many chapters are left of this. I might do a sequel though..
Feedback and votes needed before I post next chapter.
