Chapter 3: An apology
Nicholas' POV
I slammed the door behind me and stormed out onto the street. I was shaking with raw fury and I didn't know how I was going to control myself. After three days of watching that fucking nurse make googly eyes a my wife, and watching her laugh with him, I had finally snapped. I needed to calm down before I went back upstairs to Charlotte or I'd hit her again. I walked to the garage under our building and I got into our jeep. I was breathing heavily and my hands were shaking. Relax Nicholas!
I gripped the steering wheel hard and bowed my head, trying to get my breathing back to normal. I shouldn't have hit her, that was wrong of me. She deserved it, though. She shouldn't have been flirting with some guy when she has me! I thought. Yeah, this was her fault, but now she'll know not to do it again. I should give her something, though, so that she'll know I forgive her for looking at someone else when she should only have eyes for me, I added as an after thought. I started the car and pulled out of the garage, heading to the store to buy a present for my girl.
Charlotte's POV
I sat on the floor, clutching my stomach, my tears dripping onto the white carpet. I can't believe he hit me, my Nicky who couldn't hurt a fly, had hit me. Nicky had never even raised his voice to me and now he was using me as a punching bag for talking to my nurse, I thought, shaking.
With shaking hands I lifted the bottom of my shirt until my stomach was exposed. There was a bright circle, already turning purple, just under my ribcage. I ran a finger over my tender skin, wincing as my stomach throbbed with pain. I sighed and pulled my shirt back downs and lifted myself off the floor.
I walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. The left side of my face was bright red and my cheek was swollen. My hair was disheveled and my eyes were watering with unshed tears. I took a deep, calming, breath and pulled my hair back into a pony tail, then I splashed water on my face to sooth my cheek. I had just opened the door and turned out the light when a piercing shriek came from the nursery. I sighed. The baby was up.
"Hi baby!" I cooed, picking up my daughter. I bounced her gently in my arms and kissed her nose. "I wish you slept a little longer, sweet heart." I snuggled her against my chest and went into the kitchen.
"let's get you a bottle, then back to bed before daddy comes home, okay? I don't want you to be in the room if he starts yelling at mommy," I said, as my eyes started to water. I brushed at my eyes, impatiently. I didn't want Cara to witness me crying or us fighting and I was worried that Nicky might hurt her. I didn't think he would because he doted on Cara, but I didn't want to take the risk.
I had just settled myself in the couch with Cara and her bottle, when I heard the front door open. I promised myself I wasn't going to talk to Nicky until he apologized to me, so I grabbed the remote and turned on the television. I had just decided to watch the Blindside when he walked in the room.
"Hey angel," Nicky said, smiling at me. I just nodded at him and went back to my movie.
"Charlotte, did you not hear me?" he asked. I ignored him. It was silent for a few moments as Nicky stood there while Cara drank her bottle.
"Charlotte, look at me," I looked down at Cara smiling as she played with my hair.
"I said LOOK at me!" Nicky snarled and I flinched, flicking my eyes up to his face. "Don't you dare ignore me, Charlotte!"
"what, Nicholas? What do you want?" I asked frowning at him. He had scared Cara when he raised his voice And now she was upset. I put Cara's bottle on the coffee table and moved her to my shoulder, bouncing her gently.
