Chapter 6: I Shoulda Left My Phone at Home Cause This Is a Disasta

Charlotte's POV

I ran off with Cara after I exchanged numbers with Marcus. Marcus... There was something about him that confused me. Just being near him made me feel...safe. It didn't hurt that he was drop dead gorgeous. His black hair was past his neck, brushing his shoulders, just screaming at me to run my fingers through it and his eyes! His eyes were such a deep blue. They were astounding. He was tall and muscular and his voice was deep but so soft and gentle. My God talk about the total package. Marcus was completely opposite from Nicky's all american boy appearance. Shit! I forgot all about Nicky!

"Oh no what time is it?" I muttered, while Cara pouted in my arms.

"Mommy, I wanted to pway with Marcus."

"I know you did, baby, but we have to go home."

"Why?" she asked as we neared the bench where I had left Jackie and Andrea.

"because daddy will be angry if we aren't home."

I reached for Cara's back pack as Cara stood next to me, frowning. "Mommy, is daddy gonna hurt you again if we aren't home?"

I froze as Jackie's mouth dropped open.

"W-what is she talking about, Char?"

I gulped. "Uhm, nothing. Nicky and I were arguing yesterday, Cara must've got the wrong impression.."

I averted my gaze, and kissed Andrea good-bye. I grabbed Cara's hand and called a hurried farewell to my friend.

"Cara, don't ever mention what goes on between daddy and I again. Do you understand?"

Cara nodded and climbed into the car. I sighed as I myself got Ito the car, and then I drove off, praying that I beat my husband home.

I was almost home when my phone vibrated, signaling that I had gotten a text. I braced myself and reached for my phone, worried that it was Nicky telling me he was home early and demanding to know where I was. But it wasn't Nicky, it was Marcus.

'Hey, Charlotte, Uhm, you forgot Cara's trike at the park...'

Dammit! I looked at the clock. It was five thirty and it takes a good half hour to get back to the park. I wouldn't have time to drive there and back before Nicky got home.

'Oh, thank you for telling me, I don't have time to go bk 2 the park to get it. Cud you drop it off @ mine tomorrow?'

That would just have to do. Cara can live with out the tricycle for a few hours and she'd get it back while Nicky was at work. I pulled into the garage as my phone vibrated from Marcus' response.

'Sure thing! That gives me an excuse to see you again ;]'

I laughed at his boldness. "this guy is unbelievable" I muttered.

'Don't act too cocky, stranger. Who says I'm interested? I'm a married woman :]'

I smirked to myself and got out of the car, then going to the back of the jeep to lift my sleeping daughter out of her booster seat.

I walked in the door and headed to Cara's room to put her into bed. I'd let her sleep for another half hour. She had a long day. I kissed her for head, brushing back her black curls, then I headed to the kitchen to start dinner.

I stood at my counter, contemplating what to make when another text came through.

'I know you are, but there's something about you that intrigues me. Something that makes me want to protect you. You seem like the damsel in distress type, like you could use a knight in shining armor ;]'
