Chapter 12: Hey Mr. Pilot
[Happy Holidays every one! Sorry this is short but I needed this filled chapter]
Charlotte's POV
"Angel, did you pack everything for my business trip?" Nicky asked me, as he looped a tie around his neck. Nicky was going on a business trip to LA for a conference and he had asked me to help him pack. He would be gone for a week and I was bubbling with excitement. I would be able to be with Marcus and Cara for seven stress-free days.
"Yes, baby, I'm all done," I said, closing his suitcase before turning around to face Nicky who was buttoning his shirt, the tie hanging limply around his neck. I pulled him closer to me and did his tie, smoothing out the creases in his collar.
"Are you gonna miss me?" Nicky asked. He was looking into my eyes searchingly. I would miss Nicky but I felt as if a friend was leaving, or an acquaintance. I had slowly lost my feelings for Nicky the more I saw Marcus. I was seeing the light as my mother would say.
"Yes, I will," I confirmed, looking into my husband's blue eyes. They were so different from Marcus'. Marcus had such deep blue eyes, like pools. You could just sink into their depths. Nicky's eyes were like pieces of ice, cold and hard.
I shook my head, clearing it of Marcus and Nicky comparisons before Nicky could question what I was doing. "What time are you leaving?"
Nicky looked at the watch on his wrist. "I have to be at the airport by 4:00 pm," Nicky said. "I have an hour and a half."
I nodded and turned away as our bedroom door opened and Cara padded into the room, clutching Ellie.
"Daddy, I don't want you to go," Cara said, her voice quavering slightly. I signed. Ever since Nicky had announced he was going on the business trip, Cara had been suffering from minor separation anxiety. While she was still extremely angry with Nicky for hurting me, she still loved him deeply and she didn't understand why he would leave us. She had taken to following around the house and she had slept in our bed, between Nicky and I, for the last three days.
Nicky kneeled down on the floor in front of Cara and hugged her tightly. "I don't want to go either cupcake, but I have to for my job. You dot want me to lose it, do you?" Cara sniffled and shook her head. "I'll be home in a few days and when I come back, I'll take you anywhere you want to go, okay?"
Cara's eyes widened. "You'll take me to Sesame Stweet?" I smiled. Cara had been obsessed with going to the Sesame Street theme park ever since she saw a commercial for it on tv. She asked everyone to take her; Nicky, myself, Marcus, my mother, Jackie, and Eddie. She was very upset every time she got a no.
Nicky chuckled, "Yes, I'll take you to Sesame Street."
Cara squealed and clapped her hands. She flung herself at Nicky, hugging him tight, crying "thank you! Thank you daddy!" she kissed his cheek and then ran to the bed, pulling his suitcase on the floor. We watched, curious, as she tried to drag it over to the door.
"Come on, Daddy!" she panted, pushing her hair out of her face. "You has to go to Cadifornia so you can take me to Sesame Stweet!"
Nicky and I burst out laughing. "You better hurry Nicky!" I giggled. Nicky smiled at me as I laughed, then he turned back to his impatient daughter.
"Cara, my plane doesn't leave for another hour or so! I can't leave now."
"Make the plane leave now, daddy!" cara said, shrugging as if it were the simplest things in the world.
"Baby, Daddy can't make the plane go, only the pilot can, that's the person that flies the plane," I explained.
Cara frowned up at me. "Mommy, daddy has to leave now. Make the pilot fly the plane now so we can go to Sesame Stweet!"
"I can't make the pilot leave now, baby. Be patient Cara."
Cara pouted, the suitcase still clutched in her fingers. I looked up at Nicky for help. He ran a hand through his blonde hair. "Cara, go play in your room for a minute, let me talk to the pilot," he said, pulling out his cell phone. Cara beamed at et father and scampered out of the bedroom.
"You aren't really calling the pilot are you?" I questioned, incredulous. Nicky shook his head.
"I'm only going to pretend to. I'll leave early and hang out at my brothers for a little bit so she thinks I got on the plane," my husband explained.
"Wow, that's a great idea," I smiled, as Nicky put the phone to his ear, just incase Cara walked in prematurely.
"Yes, Mr. pilot, this is Nicholas Monroe. Yes, that's right, Cara's daddy," Nicky said loudly as creaking was heard outside our bedroom door way. Cara was listening. "Yes, sir. I was wondering if the plane could leave now...yes..now..that's what I said." Cara peaked her head around the door frame, looking up at her father. Nicky winked at her and the turned back to his "conversation."
"Is that possible?....it is? Oh thank you, sir! Yes, thank you so much. Bye." Nicky closed his phone and turned to Cara with a bright smile on his face. Cara shuffled a few paces into the room.
"Guess what, cupcake?"
"What, daddy?"
"The pilot said he would leave now!" Nicky cried, faking excitement. Cara's eyes widened and she squealed in joy.
"Really, daddy?" she asked.
"Yes, baby girl!" Nicky said.
"Yay!!" Cara screamed, jumping up and down. "Thank you daddy! Your the bestest!" Nicky beamed. I frowned slightly.
I can't possibly leave Nicky when Cara loves him so much...I thought. I couldnt tear my daughter away from her father, the man that has raised her, the man that had been their since the day I found out I was pregnant. And Nicky had been so good these past few months. Maybe he has changed..I blinked as Nicky suddenly appeared directly in front of me.
"Are you alright, angel?" he asked me.
"Y-yes, I'm fine," I murmured. Nicky's eyes darkens slightly at my low voice and I flinched, bracing for impact. But it never came.
"I have to go. Or I'll miss my plane," Nicky continued as I straightened, mildly shocked that he hadn't hit me. "I'll see you in a few days." Nicky hugged me to him tightly and kissed me fiercely before whispering I love you and turning to say good bye to cara.
I had a serious problem. I don't think I could leave my husband.
