I open the front door and a rush of cool air pushes against me, the day was mostly cloudy so it wasn't so hot. I walked along the sidewalk and headed downtown, there were tall buildings that towered over me, cars that drove by, some loud while others were quiet. It was busy but I enjoyed the moment of being out alone.
I wonder if there are any tea shops near, I have a sudden craving for some sweet milk tea! Mmm yum.
I find a small shop and see it's also a bakery filled with breads, donuts, cakes, bagels, coffee and teas.
Oh boy, I am in love already!
I step inside as a little bell jingles against the door. I look around and breathe in the heavenly smell of sweets and coffee. The soft aroma surrounds me and fills my lungs with delight, I close my eyes to take in the feeling and slowly make my way towards the counter but then my happy place is interrupted with a familiar voice. "Hey, whatcha doing here?"
Oh no, is it really...?
I look over and to my horror, it really is my brother. He waves a hand and motions me to sit with him. I let out an exasperated sigh as I go and sit at the table with him. He gives me a pat on the back, "Surprised to see you here, let alone outside the house."
What does he see me as? A hermit?
I just give a shrug, "Well I wanted to explore the city and I found this place so I came inside." He lets out a chuckle, "Well you came to the right place. It has some very good foods here...plus there's free wifi."
Okay, he may be obnoxious and annoying, but he does know this city. Maybe he can be my tour guide...
I nod as I stand up to place my order of a small ball of sweetness, a donut hole. I pop it in my mouth and savor the warm, soft and fluffy ball. Sweet with a crispy shell of chocolate that melts in your mouth.
Ooh yeah, this is totally heaven.
I close my eyes but then quickly open them as my brother Jason pats my back again, "You enjoying that sis? Here, lemme buy you a dozen. Then I'll show you around...since you're still a newb." He lets out a laugh as he buys me my sweets. I grab the bag and walk outside.
We leave the bakery and my eyes start to wander around again. Looking at the stores to see what fashionable items they might have.
I don't really enjoy shopping but this time might be a little different.
I decide to enter and I was greeted with a friendly "Hello" from the staff and manager. They were all so friendly and made sure I felt welcome. We ended up chatting while looking around the store and they took a liking towards me.
They had a help wanted sign. Maybe they are trying to persuade me. Hmm, well no matter, I still very much like this place and staff. Maybe I'll ask them for a job, I need one anyway.
I get the manager's attention and ask, "Hey, I was wondering if I could get hired. I have always wanted a job like this one and I know I can do great." The manager smiles at me and agrees. "Alright. When will you be able to start?" I gasped excitedly, "Right away!"
This went splendiferically! Yes. I know that's not a word but I'm that excited. Hehe
We shake hands and I head home. Anxious to tell my dad the wonderful news. As I am walking home, I notice it is eerily quiet. I look around and realize that my brother is totally gone. I consider calling him but that would mess up the evening.
It's very lovely. The pretty sky, illuminating the rest of the city with it's golden rays.
The sun decides to hide behind the hills as the sky changes from luteous to madder, then finally black skies. There were a few clouds that gave a slight livid color but I kept on walking home. By the time I get back, my dad was waiting for me. He taps his foot on the floor with his arms crossed as I enter the house. "Young lady, do you know how late it is? Or how worried I was becoming? Why didn't you stick with your brother?" A sigh escapes my mouth, "Well I went into a store to browse and he disappeared. He didn't even call me so I didn't call him, but, I did manage to get a job today." I sheepishly smile, a little bit nervous for the reaction.
Oh boy, I hope this goes well!
I bite my lower lip as he speaks up, "Well. That is a good thing, congratulations, but please. Next time contact me or your brother to explain what you're doing and where you are." I get slightly annoyed, my nose flares and I frown raising my voice a bit, "Why am I still treated like a little girl?! I'm 18 years old, I know how to take care of myself!"
Honestly! What is the big deal?!
My father sighs and apologizes. "I just don't want anything bad to happen to you. I'm sorry." I look down at my feet, feeling guilty. "I should be the one saying sorry. It was wrong for me to snap at you like that." He then pulls me into a hug, "Hey sweetie, it's alright. Go rest, I'm sure you had a busy day." I hug him back and nod as I turn to the stairs after letting go, then head up into my room and fall asleep.
