Chapter 10

The night was cold, it was the end of January in California
Though it doesn't get very cold here during the day, the night are brutal nights.
I checked my phone
40°
I was still wearing my concert dress.
Which by the way still had the slightest hint of a stain.
Not like it mattered because I wouldn't have made it anyway.
I kept thinking
Who would mess up my audition?
Who would have the guts to go in there and ruin something so important to me?
It had to be John

Flashback to a two and a half years ago**
"Hi I'm John" I heard someone say over my shoulder
I was quite a reserved person and so I never assumed anyone was talking to me.
Especially because I didn't want anyone to talk to me.
" excuse me" the voice said again in a soft humble voice
He came around to the front of my chair
"I um was just wondering if I could buy you a coffee, well because you're cute. I mean.. I would love to buy you a drink" He stated
I giggled a bit.
Did I really look good today? I thought
"Well sure " I responded
Telling him my favorite Starbucks drink
"Oooo that's a good one, a woman with good taste" he said with a smirk
I laughed again, he was cute.
And sweet
"Thankyou" I said shyly
Right then he got a call
"Mhm", "what" he stated through the phone
He hung up abruptly
"I'm so sorry but I have to go, I'll order your drink and be on my way.. It was nice meeting you... Um.. Yeah goodbye!" He said
Fidgeting with his phone to order for me off the app
I could barely say bye as he walked out
"Oh um I'm kate!" I yelled as he walked away
He laughed a little "Thankyou Kate'
And he was out
I was sad I didn't get his number.
I thought about him for a bit
Dark hair and bright blue eyes,
Just like my friend Harry
But Harry had green
"Kate" the barista said
My drink was ready
What a good day to come get coffee, I thought to myself.
I sipped my cup and looked at it
His number
It was on the cup
I smiled a big smile
I'll call him tonight, I thought to myself.

Present day

I went through my contacts wondering who I would call
Nick was the only one I had talked to in the past year but we weren't close at all.
I felt weird but I had no choice.
I was a college student with $75 in the bank'
Aka lunch money until February
I couldn't even afford a cheap hotel.
Harry would have been able to though
His singing career was blossoming and peoplee fen started to recognize him on the street
I was so envious but it was easy for him
His good looks and charming manner
And obviously his insane talent.
I should have kicked him out.
It was my apartment first after all!
I dialed nicks number in complete and utter humiliation
"Hello?" Answered a groggy voice
"Hey uh, so you wanted to hangout.. What about a sleep ovee? Right now?" I asked awkwardly
"Oh Kate I'm sorry I'm not looking to really do anything with you and it's humbling really that you find me attractive and all but I'm not big about one night st-"
I cut him off as soon as I could
"Oh gosh no I'm sorry I'm so sorry I'm just.. Oh wow.. Okay, well the thing is me and my boyfriend got into a fight and I was just looking for some place to stay, I don't have anyone and I'm broke as hell." , "but if you can't that's so okay, like I get it! Total invasion of privacy! Don't want a weirdo in your house that ya just met, right?" I said. You could tell by my awkward banter that I was nervous.
"Oh" he said as he nervously chuckled
"No one night stand tonight then" he joked again
"I'll send you my address, feel free to come right now if you'd like.
Oh and I bet you haven't eaten, I'll make some food. Well I lied I can't cook but I'll order pizza.. How long have you been outside?? Oh never mind just hang up and come over!" He said
I hung up and sighed a sigh of relief
Thank God good people are still out there.
