It's kinda funny really. Given the current situation, the Rainbow X is the complete opposite of what it was, the flashing lights, loud music, and everyone dancing; well, that's all gone now. Just like the world we used to live in, every thing we've ever known, loved, hated, it's all gone.
I approached what I assumed to be the gathering area, which used to be the dance floor actually. There were nine people sitting on the ground, of course Sasha and Jayden were there too. I sat sat down beside Jayden, crossing my legs like a pretzel. I turned my head to look at him, he was talking to an elderly woman. Jayden stopped his conversation to look at me. "Well I suggest you meet everyone here, I mean they did do you a little favor and kept you alive."
I looked around the room, these nine people helped save me? I stood up to so everyone could see me, I mean what's wrong with being the center of attention? "My name is Damian and I'd like to thank you guys for saving my life. I wish I could do something in return for you all." I said, feeling a bit nervous, I've never really been a people person.
The woman Jayden was talking to stood up, "My name is Mertile and I welcome you."
A set of male twins with red hair stood up at the same time. "I'm Roy and this is Rodney, just don't get thrown into a car next time, yeah?" Roy smirked.
A man in a black suit, with black hair, and glasses stood up. "My name is Michael," he said looking at me with his hazel eyes that seemed to pierce my soul.
The rest remained silent and sitting down.
I scratched the back of my head, "It's nice to meet you all I-" I was soon interrupted by Michael, "Tell me something Damian," he tilted his head, "Why haven't you tried to kill us yet? Are YOU the one who's behind all this infection? Well tell us, are you immune?"
"Michael, shut up. Jesus man, you never stop talking." Jayden said, looking rather irritated.
"Anywho-" Jayden stood up and looked at me, "Just make yourself feel at home." He had a small grin on his face and everyone in the room seemed to scatter like roaches. I wouldn't have doubted if they were forced to meet me on the dance floor. I nodded before Jayden left, leaving me alone in the middle of the dance floor, looking awkward.
I looked around, heh the place looked almost empty. I approached a wall and traced the rainbow painted on the wall with my fingertips, I really missed this place. I heard a voice, "Heh, you look like you knew the place before it became our base." I turned around to see Mertile. "Yeah I did actually." I said leaning against the wall, looking at her. She was a pretty short elderly woman, she had gray hair, old saggy skin, and blue eyes.
"Oh really? I can imagine it was a fun place." She smiled softly.
"Yeah, heh. The loud music bouncing you around, the drinks, and the lights would be as colorful as ever." I said, smiling back.
She chuckled. "You must've had a lot of energy, unlike lil old me."
"Mertile, quit flirting with the new guy!" Rodney yelled from the other side of the room, she then turned in the direction of his voice, "Oh shut the hell up, I wasn't flirting!" She snapped back at him before turning to face me. "Listen here kid," she whispered with a serious tone. "My house has supplies, weapons, food, everything. I would've been fine if these idiots didn't think I needed help." I was surprised to think that Mertile was more prepared for this than anyone else. "What do you want me-" I was interrupted. "I heard them talk about you being immune to this damn virus, just go to my house, get the supplies and come back. These crappy pistols won't hold off an entire horde, I suggest you bring Jayden or even the bothersome twins with you. Think of it as payment for me stitching up your body with Sasha." She grunted. I nodded before walking away.
I walked up to Jayden scratching the back of my head. "Eh so uh Mertile wanted me to-"
"I know." Jayden said as he was leaning his back on a wall. "She's wanted us to go for the longest time, but we had no reason to go to her house. She lives in what we call 'The Red Zone' it's where ton of infected are." He then smirked. "But, if what we think is true, YOU can go get the supplies." I felt slightly betrayed, "M-me? Why me?" He shook his head before he shrugged, "Because you're immune AND your wounds heal quickly." He said handing me a backpack, a walkie talkie , A pistol, and a flashlight. "You might want to rest up before you go, heh it's a long walk." he smirked.
A couple of hours later, I took a deep breath before approaching the elderly woman. "So uh where do you live exactly?" I asked because I wasn't just going to wonder around the streets of an infected city. She looked up at me with those ancient blue eyes. "I live here," She passed me a slip of paper like it was some kind of secret or something. "I guess I'll be off then." I said walking away. "Good luck!" Mertile yelled from the distance. I approached the door, the pistol was in its holster on my hip. I grabbed the machete and the throwing knives I had before, on my way out.
I opened the doors, stepping out and closed them behind me. This city looked rather empty compared to what it was, it was now littered with trash, dead bodies, small fires, and abandoned cars. I sighed before looking at the slip of paper, "4549 Diamond Rd." I let out a groan. That's on the complete opposite side of the city. I then walked down the steps and began to head that way, it was surprisingly quiet around here.
After a few minutes of wondering down the streets of the city (ALONE) I finally heard a noise, I tightened my grip on the machete's handle, turning the corner there were three of them. They were distracted as they were eating rotten flesh from some corpse. I couldn't leave them like that. I snuck up behind the one that was closest to me, as he was hunched over, digging into the remains of some poor lady, I raised my blade and quickly brought it down onto his neck with much force. He released a loud screeching noise as his head was separated from his body and blood littered my shirt and the machete. The other two looked up at me before slowly rising, they began to come closer to me. I charged at them with the machete, raising it to their necks, hoping I could decapitate them, I swung the blade as fast as I could, taking both their heads off.
I walked away from the scene with the machete in tightly clutched in one of my hands. I turned around to look at the bodies, I shook my head. Ugh why do I have to do all the work? I looked up to see four more of those things walking towards me, I sighed. Time to go to work.
It must've been HOURS, before I finally made it to the other part of the city. I killed countless amount of those things. I walked to Diamond Road, the place Mertile's house was supposed to be. My jaw dropped as I saw many of those creatures down the road. I tried to count them all, one, two, three, I continued to count. "Holy shit." I said to myself, there were 35 of them.I think I know what Jayden meant by "Red Zone" I took a few steps back. I knew I didn't have enough ammo to kill them all and shooting them would just attract them to me, I don't have enough knives either, and running in there would just be insane, even if I was immune they'd surround me and claw me to death. I gasped as something grabbed my shoulders and pulled me backwards. I felt a sharp pain my neck as I knew that teeth had sunk their teeth into my flesh, I pulled away before turning around and decapitated the infected's head. I placed my hand over my neck, feeling the small amount of flesh missing from it, and blood leaking down my neck. I looked at the corpse and then back up at the large horde. I HAVE AN IDEA.
I mean being immune was a blessing at this point. I hacked the corpse's hand off, before throwing it into the horde, the hand was ignored. Heh, I guess this would go well then. I sliced open the dead man's stomach and place my hands inside his body, my hands tainted with the red liquid. I then smeared the blood onto my flesh and on my clothes. Yuck this stuff smells horrible, I never thought I would even attempt something like this. I grabbed the machete and walked away, approaching the horde of infected. Dear God, I hope this works. I tightened the grip on my machete once more, before releasing a heavy sigh. I looked at the walking corpses and began to make my way into the crowd.
