Ugh, it was so hot outside. Walking to the city so far has been rather anticlimactic, sure there were a few abandoned cars, but they didn't seem to work. I finally approached a car and peered into the window, which looked slightly damaged. I was surprised. There was a woman in the car! Of course the door was locked, wouldn't surprise me if she had been sleeping in it all night.
I knocked on the the window, trying to wake her up. I sighed, before taking a closer look. She had blonde hair, which was also in a ponytail, she was wearing blue jeans, a pink t-shirt with a faded image of some sort. I didn't exactly want to BREAK the window, so I continued to knock on it once more. After knocking for what seemed like ten minutes, I hit the door with the bat, leaving a small dent, but it's not like she was going to use the car with abandoned cars blocking the road.
The woman jumped up in shock. She looked at me with her green eyes and muttered the words, "P-Please don't hurt me." She looked terrified, as if I was going to hurt her. I just wanted to help her and get information on what had happened earlier. I looked at her, "Don't worry I'm not here to hurt you." I said peering into the car again.
"How can I trust you? I don't even know you!" she yelled, staring at me. I sighed. "I guess you don't need my help with anything then. Whatever," I said, irritated. I began to walk away when I heard a car door opening, stopping me in my tracks as I turned around to face her. She approached me with those big green eyes, they kinda reminded me of Patrick's stunning emerald eyes, but her's were just kinda like a faded green.
"Where are you going?" she asked, looking rather in the need for help. "I'm going to the city's shelter, that's where they said the evacuation was I think." she then looked at me with concern. "Don't go into the city." I raised a brow. "Why not?" I asked. "There are those 'things' everywhere in the city." She started to explain. "But what about the military!?"
"They've abandoned us." She said looking at the ground.
"Then what's the point of telling us about the evac station?"
"I don't know, but." She started, crossing her arms and looking at the ground. "My younger brother, he went in there looking for supplies and he left me and my son alone here. He hasn't came back in hours and I'm worried about him." I heard a crack in her voice. She was worried, like the same way I'm worried about Patrick. "I don't exactly expect you to just go randomly wandering into the city full of plague ridden mutants, but I wondering if, you'd take us with you?" She asked, looking up at me.
I had honestly not wanted to go into the city, considering what she had told me, but if she was missing him that much then I HAD to do something, because I have morals, surprising? I know. I nodded. "Well I mean, if you have anything such as a weapon, that would be great, this baseball bat doesn't exactly hold off a horde." I said scratching the back of my head. "T-thank you so much! You don't know how much this means to me!" She said, completely ignoring my question. "You can thank me later when we actually find him." I said, holding the bat by my side. "As for a weapon, I saw a tool shed not too far away from here." she finally answered my question. I gave her a funny look, "Where did you plan on going exactly?"
"Oh, we ran from the city and we went to that big house over there, looking for supplies, you'd think for a big house they would have more food than a half of box of cereal and a few granola bars." She tilted her head. "Yeah I know, it was time to go grocery shopping for us." I sighed. She looked at me surprised. "That's YOUR house!?"
"Nah, it's not MINE it was my boyfriend's. I moved in with him almost a year ago."
"Oh, I'm sorry, where is he now?"
"I don't know"
She stood there, looking a bit awkward. I broke the silence, "So uh you wanna introduce yourself and your son?" She nodded quickly, before going to the car and opening the car door and getting her child. I began to look around at our surroundings. When I looked back I saw the mother in front of me, holding her son's hand. He was wearing blue jeans and a red shirt, which was almost as red his hair, however he had his mother's green eyes. "I'm Sidney Blackshire and this is Randy, my Eight year old son." She nodded. "Ah, he's so cute. His hair is so red!" I said with a bit too much excitement. "Yeah, he gets that from his daddy." she said, rustling the kid's hair. "I'm Damian Valentine and I'll take you to see your brother." I nodded, looking at Sidney. She looked down at Randy, "Do you hear that Randy? This man's going to help us find Uncle Jayden!" She said excitingly. Little Randy looked up at me, "Are you really going to help us?!" his little eyes growing larger. "Well of course I am," I smiled warmly at the boy. "Awesome!!" The boy yelled, stomping his foot, causing the mother to laugh, "Alright settle down now." She looked at me with a smile, "Thank you a million times thank you."
