After many minutes of embrace I reluctantly let go. "I'm going to go make some food you're bound to be hungry." I sighed in an attempt to get out of the room so that I could try and escape the guilt I feel when I look in her eyes. "Okay." she said not questioning me. "Here" I said while approaching her so that I could adjust her pillow so that it was more comfortable. "Better?"I question softly while scanning her facial expression searching for pain while she nodded in response. And with that I bent down and kissed her softly on the forehead and made a quick exit through the door once over the threshold I closed the door softly and lent against it closing my eyes in relief that I didn't have to stare at my little sister who was in pain that I had caused.
After a few seconds of the closest thing I can get of peace I opened my eyes due to the fact that I should really not be experiencing peace after what I've done, I was surprised by the sight of Gale sitting on the floor on the other side of the hall looking up at me with eyes full of worry. "I'm fine." I said looking down at him knowing what he was thinking but wasn't very convincing considering that I most likely looked like a mess with red eyes, Prim's blood still manifesting my top and that I was sliding down the door with my head in my hands silently crying. "You're a terrible liar Catnip." He responded to my actions and words. In response to his words I just looked up at him with a tear strained face and a toothy smile "See I'm fine." I said in a hoarse voice. "Yeah you're not lying you've even got the smile to prove it." He said in a sarcastic tone while he got up from his side of the hall and sat down beside me engulfing me in his arms on my half. In response I just nuzzled my head into his shoulder and began to sob harder.
After many minutes of sobbing into Gale's comforting shoulder I become aware of the fact that he has fallen asleep so I don't object I just try and sleep beside him which is successful after a few minutes because I'm then taken over by a surprisingly nightmare free sleep.
What felt like thirty seconds of sleep was then interrupted by screaming which I was immediately able to recognise, Prim. Within seconds I was on my feet followed by gale and through the bedroom door holding her in my arms stroking her hair. "Shhh shhh, Prim you're okay I'm here now don't worry I'm not gonna let anybody hurt you." I assured her while Gale took a place on the other side of Prim on the bed while rubbing her back. "Do you wanna talk about it? You don't have to if you don't want to." I questioned with a soft tone. In response she shook her head slowly into my still blood covered shirt. "I'm gonna get you some water." Gale stated while walking out of the room and giving me a look of compassion in the process which I just nodded to in response. "Here Prim lye down you'll hurt your shoulder." I stated while lying her down and kissing her forehead in the process and going over to get a chair from the other side of the room and dragging it over and taking my place in it. After waiting in my seat for a couple of minutes for Gale's return he came in quietly with hunters steps wielding two glasses of water. "Here" he whispered handing me a glass which I happily accepted feeling my thirst kick in and mouthed thank you to him in the process which he nodded to in response and proceeded to set a glass on the bedside table beside a sleeping Prim. He then took a seat on the floor beside me and watched over Prim like a hawk just like myself.
