The next morning at the breakfast table on the train there was a awkward silence filling the atmosphere. After a couple of minutes of listening to each others silver ware I broke it "So when do we get in?" I asked as an attempt of getting rid of the thoughts in peoples heads about my episode last night. "In about twenty minutes." Effie replied "Katniss, I" Effie started but I interjected knowing what she was going to say "I don't want to talk about it." I replied bluntly "I just want to make sure your okay that's all." She sighed making me regret getting worked up at her. "I'm sorry I just can't tell what's real and what's made up any more." I replied timidly "Then ask." Effie replied sounding genuine "Ask who?" I retorted quietly "Us where your family don't push us away." Prim replied sounding worried and serious at the same time "Okay." I replied while reaching across to take her hand and run my thumb up and down and the back of it caressing her soft skin while giving her a warm smile from across the table.
When we arrived in district 12 I was frightened of seeing the aftermath of the bombing, but I was surprised because recovery efforts had already began as there was workers removing rubble from the streets and destroyed structures that used to be standing in my home of district 12. Upon our arrival there was another convoy ready to transport us to the victors village. When we where approaching the village I started to feel a tightening sensation that was growing unbearably, when we reached our house I felt it so strongly that I started crying silently hoping that know one would notice but that was a lost cause considering Prim was sitting beside me. She took my hand in hers and helped me get out of the large armoured vehicle then helped me stand while Effie retrieved my crutches.
Once I opened the door to the house and was escorted into the kitchen where I was sat down at the table by Effie where she sat across from me and Prim proceeded to the stove where she started making tea, probably cause she knew warm drinks calm me.
When she gave me my mug I sat clasping it between my hands soaking up its warmth, while I was doing this Prim had already given Effie and herself a mug and proceeded to sit down. "Are you staying?" I asked in a quizzical tone that was directed towards Effie "No, dear." She answered in a quiet tone filled with regret.
After we had finished our tea Effie brought my stuff upstairs while Prim washed the mugs and I sat at the table listening to the sound of the running water coming from the tap. Eventually Prim sat down beside me with her body turned in my direction obviously her trying to get me to speak. "What?" I finally asked "you okay?" She asked while placing her hand on my right shoulder comfortingly. "Yeah, In fact do you want to go to the woods with me?" I asked trying to mask how I really felt how I really actually wanted to curl up in the corner and cry until there was none left. "Yeah just one thing." she said "What?" I asked "We don't hunt." She retorted pleadingly "Fine but how do we get dinner?" I asked in a matter of fact tone "We can go to the hob, I heard they got that back up and running first." She replied pleased "Okay but you're cooking ." I said trying to sound enthusiastic for Prim's sake "Okay" She said knowing it would be the case any way cause she hates my cooking well not cooking more like attempts.
After we had said our goodbyes to Effie Prim and I made our way into the woods slowly due to my crutches ,by cutting through what used to be the seem but was now a pile of destruction sitting motionless as a reminder of the war and of the games. When we got to the tree line of the woods after sliding under the fence which was easy for prim but proved difficult for myself Prim stopped "What?" I asked in a concerned tone "I don't want to what if there's predators?" She asked while her breathing rate got faster with each word "There won't be and if there is I'll protect you." I said after I had lowered down in front of her hurting my injury in the process but I didn't care, and I clutched her shoulders. "But you don't know there might be." She said a bit calmer this time "If there is as I said before I'll protect you." I said with a comforting smile "But you can't what about your leg?" She asked concerned "Prim have you ever seen me loose when I have my bow?" I said as a way of diverting and lightening the subject "No." She said in a tone of defeat.
Once we had gotten back on track we ended up at Gale and I's meet up point for our Sunday morning hunting sessions. We then settled ourselves down where Gale and I would sit before hunting, myself on the left of the rock and Prim on the right with her head resting on my right shoulder. After a while of taking in and appreciating our surroundings we left for the hob discussing what we wanted for supper.
When we arrived at the hob people where looking at Prim and myself with small appreciative smiles and some even made a point of greeting us and thanking us for what we did in the war. Once we got to the butcher after getting some vegetables from the hob we walked in to it inspecting the various choices we had and eventually deciding to buy some chicken which was expensive given that its a luxury in district twelve.
As soon as we got home Prim started cooking the chicken and vegetables and I proceeded to set the table with a plate and knife and fork each.
After the food was ready we sat down and ate in a comfortable silence until I broke it "This is really good Prim." I said looking across the table at her with a smile because I felt bad about making her cook. "It's okay Katniss I didn't mind cooking it." She replied reassuringly
When we finished I cleaned the plates which was a rigorous task because I had to lean against the counter for balance which caused me to splash water on my t-shirt.
After finishing the dishes I when't into the living room expecting to find Prim but she wasn't there so I when't upstairs for the first time since I was here during our stay in district 13. I searched the rooms expecting to find her in her own room but I didn't and after that I knew where she would be. As I entered my room I was greeted by the faint scent of roses but not just any roses president snows genetically modified one's, as I edged over the threshold the scent grew stronger which made my memories come flooding back causing me to run for the only comforting place I had in district 12 any more the woods. When I turned on my crutches to run I remembered my condition and when't as fast as my crutches could carry me, when I got to the top of the stairs I tried to proceed down them carefully which I failed at, which is what caused me to fall down the stairs which most likely opened my wound back up because I could feel the same pain as I did in the city circle.
When I had reached the bottom of the stairs Prim was rushing through the front door to my aid, and that's all I can remember before I pass out form the pain.
