The stars (***) means smut btw so if you see those and you don't want to read that, you can skip to the next set of stars that mean it's over.

LUKES POV

When Carter comes to our band rehearsal, I can't think straight. I mess up a lot of times, but I don't think anyone notices. She is so beautiful, it's distracting. The way she smiles, and the way her hair falls on her shoulder.  But then Calum starts to sing 'Beside You,' and Carter looks at him with affection and love that makes anger boil in my stomach. Her eyes don't leave Calum as she stares adoringly at him. I pull off the neck strap of my guitar, set it down, and storm out of Ashton's garage. I hear the band stop, and Michael's voice: "What was that about?" Then Carter's muffled voice: "I'll go get him." Just then, the side door opens and Carter walks out.

"Hey," she says. "You okay?"

I look at her. God, it's not fair. "No, I'm not." I'm sitting on Ashton's porch steps, and Carter comes and sits next to me.

"Ok," she says. "Why not?"

"Because you're with Calum, and I can't handle that," I admit.

"I'm not with Calum," she argues. "I told you already, I'm giving both of you a chance."

"But are you really?" I turn my head and look her right in the eye. She looks right back at me with a look that says 'What do you mean?' I explain. "I saw the way you were looking at Calum today."

Her gaze falls. "Look, Luke. I can't hide my feelings, okay? Ya, I like Calum." My heart falls at this comment. I drop my head. "But I like you too." I lift it again to look her in the eyes. We don't say anything. We just look at each other. And then she brings her lips to mine. At first, I don't do anything; I'm in shock, but then I snap out of it and kiss her back. My hand goes to her neck, and I bring her closer to me. I scoot her onto my lap and she puts her hands on my chest and runs them up my body. My head goes in the crook of her neck, and I suck on her skin. She tilts her head back, and a small moan escapes her lips. My hands drop and go under her shirt. They run up her body until I feel the bottom of her bra. She pulls away quickly.

"No. We can't do that. It's not fair," she says, out of breath.

I sigh, knowing she's right, but wishing she wasn't. How do I know she hasn't done it with Calum? I don't, but I trust Carter enough that if she won't do it with me, then she won't do it with Calum.

"I've been waiting forever to ask you this," I start, "so, will you go on a date with me?"

She smiles softly. "Yes, Luke. It's about time you asked."

"Ok. How about lunch. Noon?" I ask.

"Sure," she responds.

"I should get back to practice," I say. "You comin'?"

"I'm actually gonna head home, but I'll say bye to Calum," she answers.

There's that familiar stab in the heart. It always comes back to Calum.

"Ya, sure," I say politely, trying to hide the strain in my voice.

CARTERS POV

Luke and I make our way back to Ashton's garage. When we enter, all three boys' eyes question us. Calum looks at me and I see worry and maybe a little jealously there.

Luke engages in a conversation with Michael and Ashton, clearly trying to avoid the awkward situation with Calum and me.

"I'm gonna head home," I tell Calum.
