I Cant Believe It

Chapter Sixteen

-------------------------------------------------------------

I started laughing at Britney, but when I saw her face, I stopped. You could see that she was telling the truth. And she wouldn't start crying for no reason. Was she serious? Is Deren really the father of her baby? But, she knew how much I hated him, how could she do this?

"What are you talking about... he's really the father of your baby?" I asked slowly.

She nodded and started crying even more. I brought her to a nearby bench and we sat down. Her makeup was messed up and ran along with the tears on her cheek. She looked like a mess. I hugged her and caressed her back. She just kept crying, making my shoulder wet from her tears, but I didn't care. "He... I didn't mean to. Its just that... do you remember when we had that fight?" She asked, wiping her tears off of her face, but more tears kept streaming down.

"When?" Me and Britney got into a couple of fight but they were never that serious. The only serious one was the last one we had. It was really bad, it had gotten to the point where our hands were involved.

"That time when you used to date Deren and I got mad at you for spending more time with him than you did with me?" Her crying calmed down now, but she had the hiccups from crying too much.

"Yeah, by the way, I'm still sorry for th-"

"That's not the point," she cut me off from apologising to her, how rude. "The point is that later on that night, when you left and I was alone with Deren, we kinda... you know..." she trailed off, a tint of red on her cheeks. I motioned my hand for her to continue but she never did. So I told her to keep talking. "Well, this baby is half his. Lets just say that," she joked, but I didn't find it funny.

I got up from the bench and extended to my full height. Britney did the same thing but not as fast, considering she was pregnant. I looked her straight in the eye with so much anger. "So my boyfriend cheated on me, with you?!" I threw my hands up in the air and turned around. I started to walk back to my house but was stopped by Britney yanking my arm.

I turned around to face her but I didn't look at her. "Listen. Just listen to what happened. Don't walk away or interrupt me until I'm done. It's not that long of a story, but I'm going to tell you what happened or else it will haunt me until I die, ok?" She waited for me to answer her, but I simply nodded, my eyes still not reaching hers. "That night when you left Deren's house because you didn't want to see me, he and I were actually happy. We had started dating two weeks after you guys started dating. I didn't want to, but at the same time I did, if that makes sense. I knew if you found out you would've been heart-broken and so mad at me, but I felt good whenever I was around him. I felt like I needed him in my life. That night, after we... you know... 'did it', he said the most hurtful thing that I still cry over sometimes. His exact words were, 'Ok, now that I got what I wanted, we're over and you can go now'..." She didn't get to finish her story because she was crying really hard.

I was standing there with my mouth hanging open unattractively. I was speechless, I mean what are you supposed to say to that? Yeah, I'm very mad at her, but I don't want to just leave her here crying helplessly. When I saw two people from a distance coming our way, I quickly closed my mouth. They were too far for me to tell who they were. I looked at Britney and felt so embarrassed. I'm standing over here while a girl is crying her insides out. That looks very embarrassing.

I looked at the people who were walking again and this time I recognized the tall, blond-haired boy. Though, I didn't recognize the girl he was walking with. He didn't notice me at first, but when Britney whimpered, he came running to us, leaving the girl he was walking with behind. Stephen looked at me with a worried expression and then looked at Britney. "What did you do to her?" He asked me, in exasperation.
