Sunday
"Khalia, we've been sitting here for four hours! It's only the three of us playing UNO and you're taking a lifetime." I complained, watching as India and Khalia looked over their set of cards. It was a chill Sunday night, all of us had been taking a break from talking music but that didn't stop us from discussing the record company calls. I didn't want the opportunity to pass us by so I made sure to schedule meetings with each of them in the following days.
While juggling that, another opportunity fell into our laps. A big music festival caught wind of us and wanted us to perform in two days, none of us could resist the offer so we hastily agreed. Everything seemed to be looking up.
"Go easy on Khalia, you two!" Aunt Rose calls from the kitchen, cleaning up some plates we left behind. She was staying up past her usual bedtime for some reason. I could only assume the reason was Duke, he'd been staying around quite often. She was dressed for bed, but her mind was elsewhere as she was cleaning up everything in sight.
All is mostly quiet until the door literally bursts open, at first, I'm not sure who it could be but then Duke seems to straggle in, looking like hell. I wanted to look away but I couldn't, it was like a car wreck, you couldn't stop looking even if you tried. Something seems very off about him, other than the messy clothes, his eyes are bloodshot. No doubt, he's drunk.
I quietly gesture to India, who catches my expression at the right moment. She takes Khalia, sneaking past Duke as he stays unmoved from his position near the front door. My legs felt useless and rubbery as I slowly made my way to Aunt Rose, I was never afraid of Duke but in his drunken state, who knows what he could do.
It's when both and Aunt Rose and I choose to approach him, does he begin smashing objects out of nowhere.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Aunt Rose screams at him as he just continues his destruction of very expensive items. I wasn't sure what to do, the rage he felt for whatever reason seemed so spontaneous. He lets out yells and screams of gibberish, which I assume is supposed to be English. Aunt Rose seems hesitant to stop him, even with her yelling at him.
"Aren't you going to stop him?" I question, my voice taking on a more frantic tone than I'd like. It's as if my words wake up her up, she springs into action to get him away from any more of her stuff, attempting to pull him back from heading into her office space. In a split second, he directs all his anger on her, his voice gruff and coming out clear as a bell as he pins her against the wall.
"You stay the fuck out of this!" My eyes go wide at the display I'm seeing.
I run over to try and pry his hands off Aunt Rose, "Let her go!"
I find that I'm too weak against him as that only makes him pin her even harder against the wall if that is even possible. I hear two pairs of footsteps behind me as India and Khalia both come to my aid in getting this maniac off Aunt Rose. We manage to calm him down, which is a surprise. India and Khalia move him away from Aunt Rose, as she retreats to her room for the rest of the night.
With the aftermath of this commotion, a knock comes to the door, red and blue flashing lights indicating that it's the police. That saves me the trouble of calling them, at least. I guess one of the neighbors called after the noises they heard here.
"Good evening, officers," I greet the two officers as polite as I can, both of them tipping their hats to me.
"Evening, miss, is there a Duke Wayne on the premises?"
"Uh, yes, sir. Can I ask what he's done?" They wouldn't be here unless he hadn't done something. So I don't think it hurt to ask.
"We had someone call in about a fight at a local bar. The owner knew it was Duke and said this is the first place he'd go." I'll admit this is the first time I'm actually surprised about anything Duke has done. He didn't look the type to go into bars fighting. Yes, he's a prick but I didn't think he was crazy, until now that is.
