Forget Me Not

Family

***Nina's P.O.V***

"Hurry up boys," I called over my shoulder, slowing my pace slightly so I wouldn't trip while running through the woods. Kol and Nik started running faster in their pursuit of me. Elijah fell over a log and was laying on the ground laughing at us with tears in his eyes. I smiled and increased my pace again as Kol got closer my attention being diverted back to the game.

Two strong arms wrapped around me, sweeping me off my feet, and spinning me around while I squealed. "Was that fast enough for you Little One?"

I recognized the voice immediately and couldn't contain my smile. "I'm not little Kol," I responded.

He laughed, "Oh, but you are Darling," as he set me back down on my feet. I turned to look at him the smile still gracing my face when I caught Nik sneaking up behind him. My smile widened even more and Nik placed a finger to his lips. I subtly nodded my agreement to keep quiet.

"I'm the same height as your father and brothers as well as older than you," I stated. Just as I finished my sentence Nik tackled him to the ground. Kol groaned while me and Nik laughed at him.

Once he calmed down Nik said, "I'm the winner now little brother." He extended his hand out and helped Kol off the ground.

Elijah and Finn came over before we could start another game. "It's time for supper. Miss Nina has been invited to dine with us as always," Finn commented. We nodded and started the walk back to the Mikaelson residence as the sun set on the horizon.

I was sitting between Kol and Nik while we ate dinner. "How is your family Little Warrior?" Mikael asked.

I smiled and swallowed my food before answering, "They're doing well. They left with the twins for a business meeting."

"Well, while they're away would you like to stay here?" Esther asked.

All of the boys piped up, "You're family, please stay," so I nodded and we continued eating the magnificent meal Rebekah and Esther had prepared for us.

After supper Esther, Rebekah, and I cleaned the dishes and chatted while the boys sat and did the same in the other room.

When we were done we returned to the boys. I sat down between Nik and Kol. Rebekah went to sit between Elijah and Finn, and Esther went to sit between Henrik and Mikael. Each of the boys grabbed one of my hands. I squeezed each three times as a way to say I love you. They both smiled and squeezed back.

"We should play a game," I proposed. They all agreed, so I told them how to play and we started the game.

It was Mikaels turn to go. "So Little Warrior, if you had to choose one of my sons to see again which would it be?"

I didn't hesitate for even a moment before answering, "I would never choose one of these marvelous boys over the other. I consider all of you to be my family. Family doesn't end it blood. Family is the people you care for and who in turn care for you. It is standing up and fighting for each other. It is offering support and encouragement. Family is always and forever."

Everyone smiled at my answer. I got a cold chill so I scooted closer to Nik and he wrapped an arm around me. "My turn now..."

After everyone went to bed Kol, Nik, and I snuck outside. The boys sat close to me on either side to keep me warm in the cold night breeze. The bright stars and moon offered just enough light to see the trees and the bright colors of their leaves.

We sat outside until I started dozing off and Nik carried me inside. I snuggled into his chest and mumbled a good night to Kol who kissed my forehead.

Nik took me to my room and laid me down on the bed. He brushed the hair out of my face and placed his hand on my cheek before turning to go. Before he could I grabbed his hand. "Stay please," I requested. I could tell he was tense. He had been since Mikael asked me that question earlier.

He nodded, so I scooted over and he laid down beside me. I put my head on his chest and he started gently combing his fingers through my hair. "You don't have to worry about me going anywhere Nik. You're my best friend, my family. I love you. Always and Forever," I reassured.

He let out a deep sigh and all of his muscles relaxed as he finally let go of his worries. "Thank you. I love you too, always and forever. Now rest love." My eyes drifted closed before I could reply.
