Chapter 2 - Cat Scratch Fever

I shrink down under the harsh fluorescent lights of the operating room, letting a soft whimper escape my mouth. This room held very horrible memories, and it looked like I was about to create a new one. I lay there for a few more minutes, strapped down to the cold reflective metal table with lethar straps, and study my surroundings. It is a white, sterile room, white walls, white ceiling, white tile floor. It looks as if I am stuck in the middle of a white cube, with only the shadows of the corners to comprehend how far away each wall is. I hear a door crack open, and I mentally smack myself for not noticing it, even though it is seamlessly joined into the wall.

" All right little kitten," I hear an icy voice say. " it is time for the big injection now!" The creepy woman says gleefully. I can't make out her features, as I cannot turn my head more than a few degree in each direction. I feel my heart rate speed up as I try to understand what she is saying. What past injections have I had I wonder, because all I have found out by overhearing the doctors while pretending to be unconscious is that the somehow wipe my memory after each supposed operation.

I can hear her humming as she snaps on plastic latex gloves, and brandishes a wicked looking needle filled with an oozing teal liquid. I suddenly feel the urge to run, to escape whatever was going to happen to me.

"AH! W-WAIT!" Wretched screams were ripped from me as my body is racked with sobs. I watch the woman with wide eyes as she advances closer with the needle. I am thrashing around  in an attempt to break the tight bonds around that are chafing my wrists and ankles, and far off in the distance I can hear the whirring of a machine through the walls.

" Stay quiet and don't move if you know what's good for you!" I hear her growl, as she pulls up my shirt, preparing to plunge the sickly needle straight into my heart.

I feel a prick of pain as she injects the needle, and everything is silent, as if we were waiting for something to happen.

Suddenly my body is torn open by waves of agony, as overwhelming siezures of pain spread throughout my chest, and down my arms and legs. I can feel the ooze polluting my bloodstream, and slowly changing my body as it goes.

"Oh, it acts fast, all the better for exemplary results!" I can hear her cackle through the trimming of my rapidly speeding up heartbeat. As the toxins reach my head, I can just barely feel the top of my head split open, as that was nothing compared to my full body torture. I felt my nails elongating, on hands and feet, and I could feel my lower back sprouting a growth, that was struggling to escape from under my skin.

I can see shadows swoop in towards my vision, and before the world goes black for me, through the  torturous agony, I can just barely make out clawed hands.

(flashback ends)

I snap awake in an ally, and it takes my groggy mind a few seconds to register what happened. My eyes dart around, only focusing on one thing for a few seconds before moving on to the next. I lay perfectly still, propped up against the brick wall of one side, my lower body resting at an angle on the dirt covered pavement. I feel fear wash through me, as I try to think about what is going on.

" Wh-where am I?" I stutter to no one in particular.

I lay there for a few more seconds, making sure there is no danger, then I slowly push myself up off of the ground. I only have those two memories, my name and age, and...... nothing, except for.......

"AHHHHHHHHH!!!" I scream, staring at my pale hands. Or more precisely, the inch long pointed nails protruding from them.

I scrambled backwards, tripping over my own feet, which seem to have also sprouted their own talons. My heart speeds up, and I shut my eyes tightly, praying that this is all a dream. When I hesitantly open them, I can see that the abominations are still there. I shake myself as if to fling water off my body, then I freeze. When do I ever do that?!
