Klaus and Elena (book 2)

As i lay dieing

Elijah's POV

I look over at Elena's limp body in the passenger seat of my car. We have been on the road for about a two hours now so she should be waking up anytime. I have to admit that I am kind of sad that she took the cure. I don't wish to see her grow old and die, but it's her choice and I have to respect that. She starts to move and she looks over at me.

"Elijah? Where are we? Am I human?"

She asks and I can tell by her presence that she is indeed human.

"You are human."

I say and I see a small smile of relief appear on her face. After all these years I've forgotten what it's like to be human, to always be on the verge of death. Yet I suppose there is some fulfillment In being alive.

"Where are we going?"

She asks again looking at me confused.

"Niklaus and Kol had a spat about something, I don't know what, but if I had to guess I'd say it's about Davina. Anyway he threatened you. He's searching for you now but we are a long way from Mystic Falls and hopefully Kol."

"Great I just got my humanity back and now I'm going to die."

She says sighing and I grab her hand.

"I will not let anything happen to you. I give you my word."

I say and she gives me a reassuring nod.

"ELIJAH, LOOK OUT!"

She yells and I slam on my brakes. Standing in the middle of the highway is Kol. I look over to Elena.

"Stay here"

I say and get out of the car, approaching Kol.

"Nik didn't tell me Elena has two suiters."

He says and I roll my shoulders back annoyed.

"Don't turn this into a fight brother, you know you'll lose."

I assure him and he grabs me by the neck throwing me against a tree. He brakes a tree branch in half and stabs me in the heart. I know it won't kill me but it hurts like hell. I see Elena get out of the car and rush over to me. Dammit Elena I think to myself. I told her to stay in the car.

"Elijah!"

She yells and I go to tackle Kol but it's too late. He takes the other half of the tree branch and throws it at Elena, aiming for her heart but he instead hits her stomach. I snap Kol's neck and vamp over next to the dieing Elena Gilbert. I bite my wrist and put it up to her mouth. Come on Elena drink. I hear her heartbeat stop and water forms in my eyes blurring my vision. I grab my phone and call Klaus.

"What is it Elijah?"

He asks, pissed off.

"It's Elena. Kol he found us and.... She's dead Klaus."

I say stuttering on every word. He doesn't say anything for a few moments.

"Niklaus?"

I ask seeing if he's still there.

"Get her back to Mystic Falls. I'll be there soon."

He says then hangs up. I can hear the restraint in his voice from crying. I pick Elena's limp body up and lay her in the back seat. I fall to my knees and cry. I've never been so weak before in my life. Not even when my mother died. So why is it so hard for me now?
