PROLOGUE

King T'Challa was kind enough to let Steve and his team retreat back to his kingdom in Wakanda, and everyday spent there felt like a lifetime. The avengers that were with him included Sam Wilson, Wanda Maximoff, Scott Lang, Clint Barton, and of course, Bucky Barnes. The others that are with Tony Stark back in New York, were missing one another. They wouldn't dare to admit that though, but deep down they knew. Natasha went off somewhere after the fight, so no one knows where she is. Every day since Bucky was put back into the cryo chamber, Steve would go into the room where he was kept and check on him. He knew that Bucky couldn't hear him, but he went anyway. The others knew he didn't like to talk about his moments in there, they respected him enough not to question it. Sam had total respect for Steve, but he questioned him anyway.

"Dude, why do you keep going in there?" Sam was very curious as to why Steve gave up his shield for someone who was trying to kill them just last year, he didn't understand the bond Steve and Bucky had, so he was always asking Steve why he even bothered visiting him.

"I'm just checking on him Sam. T'Challa and his team are still working on removing the stuff from Bucky's mind," Steve said looking Sam straight in the face. Sam could see how tired Steve was from lack of sleep, always worrying about how Bucky was doing instead of himself.

"When was the last time you slept Cap?" Sam asked in concern. Steve sighed and crossed his arms.

"I slept for 70 years, I think I'm fine," Steve said and Sam held his hands up in defense, and asked Steve a dumb question as usual. It's just how Sam is, when there's an awkward moment he makes a joke that not everyone finds funny.

"So when he wakes up, are we throwing a party or nah?" Steve cracked a smile and looked his friend in the eye. He appreciated Sam trying to lighten to mood, but he wasn't trying to keep thinking about Bucky right now.

"Nah, we should just give him some space from the team for a while. Speaking of the team, have you checked on them recently?" Steve asked. He put Sam in charge of checking on them, especially Wanda.

"Yeah their good, Scott is really annoying though," Sam said and Steve could only laugh at this point. It was Sam's idea to bring him in the first place, but having him around longer then a day was bothersome.

The two decided to leave the hallway that held the room Bucky was in, and join the rest of their team in the living quarters T'Challa arranged for them. Once they entered the large living room, they spotted Scott and Clint watching a soccer game, and Wanda reading a book on the kitchen island.

Steve approached Wanda while Sam joined the boys. He sat next to her, and she put her book down and smiled at him.

"How's it going?" He asked and Wanda already read his mind and frowned.

"You're still concerned for your friend, and you haven't slept. Why is that?"

Steve didn't answer Sam, but he couldn't ignore Wanda. She was literally looking into his soul. He grabbed the pen next to her book absentmindedly, and twirled in around.

"I lost him twice, I don't want to lose him a third time," Steve said and Wanda nodded in understanding. She never read Bucky's mind, but she's sure he'll be ok. T'Challa and his team are doing everything they can to help.

That night, King T'Challa entered the living quarters with new to the team.

"Captain, we've removed everything from Barnes' mind. We'll be waking him up tomorrow morning,"

After hearing that, Steve and his team were overjoyed to hear that. Everyone but Sam Wilson.
