ROAD TRIP

Chapter 5

Sam was done. He was thinking maybe this is how he dies, with Bucky. He's going to die a virgin, with the 100 year old virgin that is Bucky Barnes. The reason they are here, with no food or clean clothes. All thanks to the other 100 year old virgin Steve Rogers, who is probably having Wanda explain how miserable they are and just laughing.

"Ugh, where the fuck are we?" Sam groaned. Bucky rolled his eyes, and then he spotted a motel. He told Sam, and he nodded and they walked towards the front. They walked in, and saw no one was around. Sam then spotted a few blood patterns on the walls.

"Oh hell no,"

"Sam, is that guy moving?" Bucky asked and Sam focused his eyes where Bucky was pointing and he walked over to the chair with the man sitting in it.

"Hello? Sir are you-AAAHHHHH WHAT THE HELL!" he yelled and ran out the room. Bucky walked over to the man, and put his hand on his mouth in shock. The man was dead, with worms coming in and out his nostrils. He left the room and saw Sam standing outside clutching his chest.

"You're acting like you've never seen a dead guy before," Bucky chuckled and Sam glared at him. Sam hates showing how weak he is, especially in front of someone as built as Bucky.

"Man shut the hell up," he then walked down the hallway and saw an empty room. Bucky used his metal arm and opened the door. Sam was grateful in that moment for Bucky's metal arm, the only time it's been used in a positive way.

"So sleepy beauty, why'd you run?"

Sam knew the answer, but he wanted a clear explanation. Bucky knew why Sam asked, so he could make fun of him some more, but he didn't care so he told him anyway.

"I felt out of place a bit, being around people who aren't trying to kill me. Steve was always telling me that everything I did wasn't my fault, but I don't believe him. I may have been under Hydra's control, but it was still me that did those things. And maybe if I knew how to control it, Tony would have had his parents a little longer, and I wouldn't have tried to kill you guys," Bucky was on the verge of tears, and all Sam could do was feel guilty.

"Plus you hate me, so I thought leaving would make you feel better," Sam now felt even worse, and patted Bucky on the shoulder.

"Let's get out of this spooky place, I just saw the bathroom and the dead guy looks more inviting then that," Bucky nodded and chuckled a bit at Sam. He was a really funny guy, maybe this trip would be good for them.

After walking some more, they spotted a gas station and ran in and saw it was abandoned. But there was food around, so they went to town.

While they ate all the chips, candy, and even some brownies, Sam glanced at Bucky and realized another reason why Steve did this. He now realizes how Bucky lived before they found him in Bucharest, he was alone and struggled to survive. In that moment, Sam Wilson felt sympathy. And he knew this was his fault, he made Bucky feel like shit and now he feels even more like shit knowing that.

"If you had your wings, would you be able to carry me all the way back to Wakanda?" Bucky asked breaking the silence and Sam chuckled a bit.

"I don't know man, you look pretty heavy," he said and Bucky smiled at him.

"This must be normal for you right? Being on the run and everything," Bucky nodded his head and sighed.

"Unfortunately, it's the only thing I'm good at nowadays. Before I was turned into a human weapon, I played baseball. Now I don't know if I can do anything normal again besides fight," Bucky frowned and Sam understood what he was saying.

"After my two tours were over, I couldn't adjust to my old life. My family didn't even recognize me, and every time I heard a loud noise I would freak out. When I would go out, I always carried a gun because I didn't know how to handle myself. But when Steve told me he needed my help finding you, he took me in and made me an Avenger. I guess my place was back to fighting, which is fine. I was helping people so I had no problem with that. I think for us, fighting is what makes us who we are. But, in this case we're fighting for our country instead of against it. It might be hard for you, but I'll help in any way you need," Sam said and Bucky was shocked to hear him say that. He had no idea how much in common they had.

"Thanks Sam, I had no idea-

"It's fine sleeping beauty, now go to sleep we'll keep walking in the morning," Sam said and Bucky nodded and they slept in the isle of the store.

Sam opened up to Bucky, and they were finally making progress.

Back in Wakanda, Steve heard from Wanda that his friends were finally getting along and he was very happy to hear that. He knew his plan would work, and he couldn't wait until they returned.
