Chapter Thirty-Five:

Amur finally let go after what seemed like an eternity. His jaws were hot and sticky with blood. He raised his head to look upon the body.

Searn was still alive, but just barely. His still-opened eye had rolled back, and blood was trickling out of his agape mouth. Scarlet had spilled onto the surrounding grass, staining it as if someone had carelessly taken a paintbrush to it.

Amur had gotten his revenge.

He turned to look at Flower. She looked perfectly fine, not a hair on her pelt had been split. It would be expected of her to look terrified, but her eyes held unexpected hope.

"It's done?" She asked.

"Yes," Amur nodded. "It's done." He looked back at the body. After a moment, he slowly dragged his feet over and leaned down beside Searn's quietly rasping body. He raised a paw and closed Searn's eyes in one smooth, gentle motion.

He stood back up and looked at Flower. "Want to go home?"

She nodded and paused.

She ran over to Amur and jumped into him. "I love you, Father," She murmured.

Amur smiled at her as he held her in his paws. "I love you too, Akayal."
