Chapter Eight

The Fallen could barely step back before the tide of energy slammed into him, launching him back hundreds of mechanometers. He dropped whatever was in his hands and pointed toward the ground. Jets of red fire streamed out of his hands, and he burned the energy inside him. Willing himself to fall slower, his pain fueled the fire.

Landing hard on his feet, he looked up to see someone leaping over the mountaintop, charging down the side. Enormous, brightly colored in red, white, and blue, and holding up a black-bladed sword, it was unmistakably Nexus Prime coming to end him. And if the Wizard of Forms was employing use of the Omni Saber, then this was going to be a complicated fight.

"MEGATRONUS, YOU PATHETIC PILE OF SLAG!" Nexus screamed. The Fallen glared back at him with defiance. He was not going to let this fool intimidate him. Nexus Prime was extremely powerful, thanks to the excessive amount of swords he possessed. Proof that he was especially favored by Solus Prime in the past.

The Fallen swelled with anger upon remembering that fact. That there really was someone else his true love cared for as well. At that moment, he decided he was going to slay this combiner as well. And the other Prime was sharing the same murderous desire.

Pulling out his Dividend blade, the Fallen stood his ground. He was ready to finally end this war. If he was to die today, then he would make sure to battle to the glorious death, taking Nexus down with him. He waited until his foe reached him, then held up his sword horizontally. Just in time, Nexus swung the Omni Saber downward.

The blades met with a resounding clash, and the two Primes pushed towards each other fiercely. Glaring contemptuously, they forced each backward. The Fallen may have been strong enough, but Nexus Prime was larger in mass, steadily overbearing his opponent.

"I know Prima would not wish it," Nexus said, "but I will avenge Solus' death. I will kill you and rid Cybertron of such a foul blot as you are."

"Really?" Megatronus laughed. "Then I shall gladly reciprocate that intention. And by the way, you may call me 'the Risen'."

Then they pulled away, grabbing their hilts with both hands and swinging again. Clashing repeatedly, they dueled with intense rage. The Fallen, or as he decided, the "Risen", clearly had the upper hand. He was a born warrior, while Nexus just swung and cut whatever he could reach. But the Omni Saber was an immensely superior blade to the Dividend.

Spinning as he lunged and parried, the Risen couldn't help but laugh again. "You really think that your brute force can stop me? Just look at what has happened to the sorry mess of spare parts we knew to be Liege Maximo. I am the mightiest!"

Nexus growled, striking harder. "I'll stop you if it's the last thing I do! We were all after Liege Maximo, you just got the weakling first! You don't scare me." But the Risen could see the fear in his eyes as he glanced sidelong at the mess of parts scattered around him. Then, with his left hand, Nexus reached into his own body and pulled another sword out. It was the Cyber Caliber, a flat sliver of shining steel that somehow passed as a sword at all.

The Risen smiled as his foe slashed both great swords to him, dodging each swivel with relish. How he loved the thrill of battle. This would be a victory to remember. And he didn't plan on dying today. He somersaulted under Nexus' legs, slicing a deep cut into the right one. He followed that up with an upward swing that slashed through Nexus' back.

The Wizard of Forms yelled out in pain. As he around, he brought the Cyber Caliber crashing down towards the Dark Prime. Megatronus leaped back, the blow coming deathly close to his chest. He decided inwardly that the outcome of the skirmish would decide his official title, Fallen or Risen. He swung his sword down at the Cyber Caliber, pushing it to the ground. He followed up with stomping down on it, pinning the steel blade to the ground.
