Chapter Nine
Many megacycles later, all eleven of the remaining Primes stood at the side of a long, white, intricately carved tombstone. The casket itself had been hand-made, with the eleven each contributing in some way. Its cover was open, and inside was the corpse of their most dearly beloved Solus Prime. They all stood solemnly around it, looking down at her face. The burnt hole in Solus' chest was covered by her delicately crossed arms. And no one there was as miserable as the Fallen.
It had been a number of days since the climactic, brutal conclusion the War of the Primes. Liege Maximo's body parts were all gathered up -- those that were too small were just used for spare parts -- and buried in one of the abandoned cities ravaged by some vague clashing between two Primes. He had no funeral. His burial was most simple, done without any consideration of honor.
As well as that, the Fallen had all the while been nursing his wounds and isolating himself. His vision had returned, but the damage to his face was irreparable. All those at Solus' viewing looked at him with surprise, unwelcomeness, and even a bit of fear. Not just of his face, but also simply because of who he was.
They deserve to look at me in such a way, he thought glumly. They wouldn't be seeing him from then on, after the completion of the funeral. At least, not for a long time. At some point, the Fallen would return to Cybertron. He just didn't want anyone else to know about it.
At this time, he simply stood somberly, gazing at the corpse of his true love. All eleven of them had given some kind of eulogy, in memoriam of the life of Solus Prime. Thirteen had gone first, followed by Nexus Prime, Vector Prime, Alpha Trion, Micronus Prime, Onyx Prime, Alchemist Prime Amalgamous Prime, Quintus Prime, and finally Prima. Under other circumstances, he would have been the first to speak, but was no longer considered worthy of such an honor.
The Fallen barely listened to Prima. He didn't want to hear what lies his twin would spew about caring about her, and had also ignored Nexus Prime's testimony of love. Everyone else had said good about her, heartfelt speeches of their experiences with her, all she did for them, and more. Truly, none were more full of inner light Solus Prime. She was a born optimist, and inspiration to always be better, and she had certainly left her mark.
The Fallen continued thinking that until he his attention was jogged by something he heard from Prima. "... loved my twin more than me, than that is just proof that in some ways, Megatronus the Fallen is better than I am. He may have many terrible and fearful qualities, but remember that he was humble. His intentions are always true, and Solus persisted in seeing that. She was just as obsessed with keeping our brother happy as she was simply obsessed with him."
Megatronus looked up to see Prima giving him a wan half-smile. "Only one as bright as Solus Prime could have seen what were once blind to -- that all sentient beings have the capability of goodness, even my twin. Only the seed of darkness infesting her spark as well as all of ours kept her from being pure and perfect. Because, as I said, she always was a feisty insubordinate. But that didn't keep her from being the best of us. We ought to forgive, even though we will never forget, and now turn the time to her very own lover."
Prima looked expectantly at the Fallen, who was dumbfounded with anger. This warrior of light and former leader of them had just calmly pointed out and rubbed in the fact that the Fallen truly was the worst of them, while insulting Solus Prime's memory as if he were complimenting her!
Calm down, he told himself, for some never change, especially Prima.
He cleared his throat, painful as it was, and gruffly began. "Solus Prime," he said slowly, "was the greatest light to me there ever could be. Forget any flaws about her, because she was the perfect sister to all of us. Even if she didn't follow through with what we wanted, it was for the greater good all along. It was a good thing she never listened to Prima's attempts to control her, for that would have taken her freedom, a right she deserves to keep. She also meant well when trying to comply with Liege Maximo, refusing to give him the instruments he wanted.
