After rescuing the boy from drowning at the river, I was getting a little worried for him not only he's wounded on the shoulder but its worse when you're out in the wilderness with no help nearby and with no cell phone. The hunters are on our trail and time was ticking. I was losing daylight and he is losing blood, the night or day doesn't really bother me but it does get a little dangerous for humans. I am no doctor but they were times when I stitched my own wounds and I took care of Andrew when Jessie hit him on the head.
I had to make a choice right here and now either I stay here or just leave the boy behind and let the animals in the woods get him. For some reason my mind tells me I should leave but my heart is telling me to stay. If I trust my fox instinct then maybe we can make it out of here alive. I turned my head toward the boy laying down on the ground. I got up to shake the water out of my red fur and it started to get puffy.
I slowly walked around the boy to look at his face, it look like he was still unconscious not moving at all. I use my nostrils to smell his face I don't know why but I was very curious. Being this close to him you can definitely smell the blood on him. That means if I can smell it then other animals around us will too. I looked at the boy again his face expression looked painful and he was wearing a grey sweat shirt with blood stain on the right of his shoulder and wearing blue jeans. I have to keep my guard up in case the boy does anything. I took a deep breath and I slowly pulled the collar of his sweater down with my mouth to see how bad the wound is. Oh yeah he's got a hole in the shoulder and blood was rolling down from it. The fox in me started stirring from deep within because of the smell and site of blood.
" Do not do this to me right now" I said but mostly to myself
I got up to look around for healing herbs, I could do it with just by licking it and it will heal that way but best way to do it is to take the bullet out first then clean the wound, mix it with herbs and dress it. Its hard to do it when you don't have equipment for it in the woods, worried that it might get infected. I will have to change back to my human form to do what I needed to do. I had no worries since the boy was passed out but I will be leaving him unprotected for a short time.
" Okay I will be right back as quickly as possible" I said
I took one more look at the boy before I turned around to run in the woods to find healing herbs for him.
It took me awhile but I was able to come across some herbs that might be some help for the boy so I took what was left a handful of it in my mouth and hurry back to the boy. When I came back to the boy he didn't move one bit, he was still in the same place where I left him. I hurried to his side checking if anything has changed but nothing. I had some work cut out for me so I got to it. The only way I can help him is if I turned back to my human form, so I looked around to see if there was anyone looking then looked at the boy, when I thought it was okay I change back to my human form and got to work.
When I did everything that needed to be done, took the bullet out with my long finger nails and threw the bullet into the river so that there was no evidence that we were here then cleaned the wound and licked it to speed up the process, holding my fox inside me so not to hurt him, my fangs were aching to bite into the flesh that was so close to me but held myself back I had to shake my head for my stupid thoughts. I rubbed healing herbs over the wound and he the boy made a yelping sound from his mouth because of the pain I didn't want to hurt him but had to be done so I dropped mud on top to stop the bleeding then ripped the boy's grey sleeves from his sweat shirt to wrap up around his neck to cover the wound on his right shoulder. It was starting to get dark so I looked around to see if there was any hiding spot we can hide for a while until the sun comes up.
I turned back to my fox form thinking it was better this way then my human form. My fox spirit liked the idea of roaming into the wild just the same thing as breathing. It needed to feel the earth beneath her paws, the wind brushing through her red fur and the smell of nature.
It was the spirit that wanted to feel free, free to run the fields and jumping through the brushes like I was chasing a rabbit or a small creature. Just when my spirit felt it was being lifted from the joy of feeling the beauty of nature, reality then struck hard into my heart like someone took a knife and stabbed it. I shaked my head from my fantasy and looked at the here and now, I was back where I was with the boy still unconscious. I started to feel sad thinking that I was alone again and Jessie still hasn't find me yet.
