First day of senior year was the best first day of school I've ever had in my high school life. I carpooled with Theo and Nate (Nate can't drive yet due to his injured foot) because my car was urgently borrowed by Cordelia and we walked through the halls of Eastern Oaks Academy for the first time in our senior year together. It felt good to be a senior. You could walk through the halls freely without worrying about bumping someone who's older than you (except for the teachers ofcourse but yeah you get my point.) because you are basically the eldest in school and that means you get to rule. But with our reputation, everyone was looking up to us and some of them basically feared us. I don't get why though, I mean we've never done anything bad. Well, we sort of had a reputation so maybe that was it. Many people talk about you and some gossips are not even right anymore. See, that's what I hate about High School, basically the social hierarchy was a thing now and I don't get why we had to put labels. We are all equal here and I guess some people are so full of themselves, that they don't see that.In the halls, the sea of buzzling and hustling students gave way while we were walking through. They literally parted like the red sea when Moses told it to when we walked passed them. I'm betting Most of 'em were freshmen because most of 'em were new faces to me and I doubt that would happened if they were juniors because the juniors already knew us and they didn't really care.
As I was saying, we walked through the halls like kings and queens, everyone looking right at us as we strolled when oh-so-suddenly, somebody bumped into Theo. A girl with glasses, blonde hair that is put up in a ponytail, and someone I wasn't familiar with, collided with Theo causing all her stuff to fall on the floor. She hurriedly picked up her things and Theo bent down to help her. I heard them exhange a few apologies until the girl hurriedly ran away from us.
"Huh, that was weird." I said, gesturing towards the girl who was now lost in the sea of students.
"I know." Theo said, fixing his shirt. I shrugged and started to walk again. When I got to my locker, I grabbed a few stuff and went on to my first class which was.. Literature.
When I arrived at the room, the class was nearly packed already and I went over to the first vacant seat I found. Unluckily, I didn't see one of my friends in this class which was disappointing but hopefully I'd see them later. I gestured towards the person seating next to me only to find that that person was the girl who bumped into Theo a few minutes ago.
I leaned in. "Hello." I greeted. Giving her the friendliest smile I could muster. Since I had no friends in this class, might as well make one right now. Plus, she seemed new here considering I haven't seen her before so maybe she needed a friend more than I did.
She looked at me hesitantly before giving me a small, awkward wave. I pushed on further to start a conversation.
"You must be new here considering I haven't seen you before. I'm Cassie, what's your name?" I asked. She was so pale I think she was paler than me. She has this blonde wavy hair and she was wearing long sleeves. She has this nerdy-sophisticated kind of look that'd make you think she was smart. Yes, I know I may be judging the book by its cover already but besides, I already think she's a genius.
She seemed hesitant for a moment before answering, "Emily, and yeah I'm new here."
"Oh, welcome to Eastern Oaks! You have any friends here with you?" I asked. Well this is good, she was slowly warming up to me considering she was quite shy a few moments ago.
"No, not really." She shook her head.
"Well if you want, you can come and have lunch with me and my friends later. We could use some new company." I smiled at her cheekily, hoping she would accept my offer. She looked taken aback by my question though, as if this was something she wasn't used to hearing. She thought for a second before giving me a small smile and said, "That'd be great."
I squeaked in delight. "Good! Can I see your schedule so I might know which class are we gonna see each other again?" She handed her schedule over to me.
"We have Calculus together, right after lunch. This is perfect, we'll go there together." I chirped, Handing her back her schedule.
"Cool." She beamed. Putting back her schedule in her bag.
"So wha-" I was cut off by the school bell ringing and with Mrs. Johnson entering the classroom greeting us a good morning. I leaned back in my seat and listened to what Mrs. Johnson had to say for the whole class.
All my classes went by pretty quick and before I knew it, it was already lunch time.
After I finished doing my business in my locker, I went directly to the cafeteria. I entered the cafeteria and saw my friends sitting at our usual table. I went to them right away, sitting beside Violet.
"So what took you so long, Cass?" Kylie asked, and sipped a drink from her smoothie.
"Went by my locker to get some stuff." I replied, pulling out my lunch pack from my bag. I set my lunch on the table when I saw Emily enter the cafeteria. I waved her over and when she saw me she strolled towards us.
I stood up to greet her. "Hey, you made it." I beamed, and invited her to take a seat.
"Yeah, well it's a jungle out there." She said, taking a seat in front of me beside Kylie.
"Hey guys, this is Emily. Em, this is Kylie and Violet."
Emily smiled shyly at them and gave them a small wave.
Kylie leaned in on Emily and half-whispered, "So tell me, Emily, do you think Cassie should give up her pathetic Harry Potter addiction?"
I literally threw my fork at her.
Not that she complained.
Emily stiffled a laugh and replied, "I don't think so. I like Harry Potter, too." She smiled.
"Ha! Take that! Looks like I have a new bestfriend." I winked at Emily, causing Kylie to roll her eyes and went back to what she was doing.
"So there's a lot of things going around and there's this one specific gossip that got me hooked." Violet said, munching on her Nachos.
"What?"
"Cole Summers is back in town."
I literally choked on my lunch.
I grabbed the nearest water bottle next to me, which I'm guessing was Emily's and drank it down. I'll just repay her later.
"W-what? Come again?" I spluttered, trying to ease my breathing.
"I said-" She was cut off when someone bangged their tray on our table. It was Nate.
"Cole Summers is back." He announced and sat down next to Kylie.
I looked at him incredulously and he just nodded.
Back in the day, there were four of us. There was me, Nate, Theo and Cole Summers. Cole lived across the street from the James' residence until they disappeared all of a sudden without us knowing where they ended up.
It was a mystery, though. Our parents were also surprised. They left at night and Cole didn't even bother to tell us that they were suddenly leaving. The adults didn't worry too much about it but me and the twins, we were glum. We felt hurt that he didn't even bother to tell us that they were gonna leave. As if all those years of friendship didn't mean a thing to him. But we recovered and we moved on. Slowly, we almost forgot about Cole as if he was never really a part of our lives.
Until today.
Out of nowhere, he entered the cafeteria along with two guys i didn't know trailing behind him.
I stared at him, he was wearing a black leather jacket and his hair had grown and was tousled. He had a short cut before which made me realize, compared to what he looked like now, he looked stupid before and I gotta say, puberty did its job well.
Seeing him there, all grown up and changed. I couldn't help but think,
Damn. He looks hot.
