×Less to do with pain×

I sat there on shock. She's only 6 and she acts more mature than the people at my school.

I hug her while lifting her off the floor.

"I care about you, too."

I stood there loving her with every once of my being.

"Maria," I whisper through her hair.

"Hmm?" She hums to me.

"What happened while I was gone?"

"M-mom... she hurt me..." Maria choked up.

I held her tighter,"Shh... It's okay," I stroke her hair,"We'll take you away from here."

I pick up Cuddles while still carrying Maria. I look back at the window and let Maria out first.

I heard a click.

I turned slowly behind me to see a man standing there with a gun pointed at me.

"What the fuck are you doing with my step daughter?" He growled at me.

Step daughter?! Mom got married?

I turn back to the window and crawl out of it as fast as I can.

But I wasn't fast enough.

I hear a gun shot go off.

I felt a sharp pain in my arm, but I wasn't going to let that stop me.

Jeffory had Maria in the car and I was running to it.

"Start the car!" I scream.

I hear an engine start up.

"DRIVE!"

And so he did.

I was left running from a man with a gun. I ran into the near by woods to try and lose him.

Luckily, I did.

I found the interstate and it began pouring rain.

I looked back to my arm. There was so much blood...

I felt so sick. I could feel myself becoming weak.

This is it, I thought to myself.

At least Maria's safe.

My vision started to have black dots show up. I heard a car honk and everything went dark.
