Elie is a junior at Asheville High School. She is very intelligent, straight A student, honor roll, the whole package. But there was a small flaw, she had no idea what she wanted in life. Her parents put pressure on her to be the best at everything.
"What the hell is this?" Elie's mother said holding Elie's report card or as Elie's parents would put it 'her life.'
"A report card..." Elie said speaking in her native language, sarcasm.
"I know what it is! But what I want to know is why there is an F on there?!" Her mother said going ballistic.
"It's for a dumb class that no one needs but takes for the hell of it." Elie responded rolling her eyes.
"Elie Callista Beckham!" She yelled as Elie started walking away.
"Mother!" Elie screamed back.
"Wait till your father hears about this!" She said with a red face that looked just like a tomato.
"Yup. Now I'm terrified." Elie sarcastically replied.
"What happened to you?" She asked disappointed.
"I finally stopped being what you guys wanted me to be." Elie said truthfully.
"No, it's those hooligans you call friends." Her mother said.
That's when Elie lost it.
"Those hooligans actually care about me! They know me better than you or dad! They are my real family! You two are just the people who drown me in the pressure of what you want me to be in life! I don't want to be a surgeon like you and dad! That's not what I want in my life! I want happiness and love and compassion!"
"Your father and I love each other Elie. More than humanly possible. I understand you don't want to be a surgeon, a lawyer is fine to." Her mother said with a calm tone.
"You really aren't getting it Meredith." She only called her mother by her first name when she is livid and right now she was. "I don't wanna be stuck at some job all day never seeing my potential children. The last thing I ever want for my kids is for them to have no one to talk too or be there when needed most."
"Is that how you really feel Elie?" Meredith asked all of a sudden feeling guilty.
"Yes it is. And you know what proves my point? Dad not being here to hear it. Instead he is in surgery clipping an aneurysm."
"Sweetheart your father and I just want you to be the best. Is that so bad to want from your child?" Her mother asked trying to defend her actions.
"It is when you are barely there to see your child grow up." She mumbled under her breathe. "You know what? Im done trying." She grabbed her car keys and hopped in her car. She blasted the music so loud it felt like your ears could bleed. But Elie was used to it. That's all she did when her parents were gone besides hang out with her friends. Where she was going you may ask. You'll have to wait and see.
