Troye sat in the doctors office, absolutely terrified about what was going to happen at this appointment. He got an app on his phone two days ago that tracks the baby's size and weight, and he was more than shocked to know that the baby was an inch long and 1/3 of an ounce in weight. It was so tiny that...it didn't even feel like he was pregnant.

"Troye Mellet"

Troye stood up scurrying in to follow the nurse, he lead Troye down the hall and into an exam room with a smile. "How are you today" The nurse in pink scrubs asked in a cheery voice

"Fine, a little nervous" Troye said pleading the hem of his shirt

"Oh don't be nervous, all we are going today is using a sound machine to listen to the baby's heart beat, its entirely too small to use an ultrasound so during a majority of your first trimester we are only listening to the baby" They explained and Troye nodded in understanding, wishing that the nurse didn't refer to his baby as an 'it' he rather the nurse use they/them pronouns until Troye was sure of the gender.

"Just a few questions before we start" he chirped "have you been experiencing any pains?"

"I get headaches every so often, I just found out about them two weeks ago so I wasn't paying attention to any symptoms before these past two weeks" Troye said

"Thats alright, and hows the morning sickness?"

Troye groaned "Horrible, and it doesn't just happen in the morning. It happens all day long some days and on other days nothing"

"Thats actually completely normal, especially in male pregnancies because you're body is being given hormones to help the baby and it tends to upset the stomach of male carriers. Typically it goes away the farther along you get, just like morning sickness" The nurse said

"Any trouble breathing, chest pains, or muscle aches?"

"No"

"Do you ever feel hopeless or confused?" The nurse asked "sorry for the dark twist, these are for after the baby is born, to check that you don't have postpartum depression"

"No, I worry about lots of things but I don't feel hopeless" Troye said

"Have you every had suicidal thoughts or actions in the past?"

"No"

"Do you are anyone in your family have a history of panic attacks, depression, or severe anxiety?"

"Um, no I don't think so nothing severe I have a touch of anxiety but nothing life threatening"

The nurse nodded "are you on any medication for that?"

"No"

"alright, thats all for now. Now lets get the the fun part and listen to it's heart beat" The nurse said "You just lay back on this table here, and I'm going to use this wand on your stomach and listen for the sound of it's heart beat"

Troye did as he was told, laying back as the nurse kindly coved his lap with a towel and took out the tools he needed. "this is going to be cold' he said before squirting a blueish jelly onto Troye's stomach and moving the wand around.

"Alright, now all we have to do is listen" the nurse said and Troye held his breath and concentrated as hard as he could to hear the sound of heartbeat. He chewed on his bottom lip as the nurse moved the wand around and around.

Troye began to worry, they couldn't find a heart beat. What if something was already wrong with his baby, what if they were sick. Relief flooded him when he heard the stead thumps of a heart beating. "Ah" the nurse said "there it is, it was hiding" he laughed
