Chapter twenty: Lost in thoughts

When I woke up this morning I didn’t feel like going to school, scared what Mason would do when he would find me. After he caught me with lying to him, I got scared. Mason hates liars, and I know that since we dated. His dad used to lie to him and Mason would do anything to get revenge or prove his dad wrong. But Aiden convinced me to come to school today, cause if I stayed home Mason might get suspicious about me being scared. So here I am having History with Aiden and I can’t focus. I look around all the time, searching for Mason as I drum with my nails on the table. I told Aiden yesterday that Mason is Carter. I don’t know if I regret it or not, sure it feels great to have someone to talk about it with, but I’m worried what Mason would do if he found out that I’ve told Aiden about him. I look out the window for the fifth time in two minutes, not paying any attention to the lesson.

 “Miss Stokes, are you listening?” Mr. Hudson asked me and I turned my head towards him and shook my head. My teacher let out a sigh and looked at me with a disappointed gaze.

 “Please pay attention” He said and turned back to the board. I let out a sigh and look at the board, and started to take notes.

The bell rang and I took my stuff and put it in my bag, before I walk out of the room. When I got to my locker Steph and Claire was there and waiting for me

 “Finally” Claire said when I opened my locker. I put my bag into my locker and turn my face to the two girls.

 “What’s for lunch today?” I asked as we walked towards the cafeteria.

 “Pizza” Steph said and smiled. I nodded my head and smiled back to her, as Claire cleared her throat.

 “Where is Aiden?” Claire asked and I shrugged.

 “Something wrong?” Steph asked as we entered the cafeteria and walked over to our table where Drew and Aiden was waiting

 “No, I’m perfectly fine” I lied and smiled. Drew walked over to Claire, placing his lips on hers.

 “Get a room” I turned my face to Aiden who was standing with his fist ready to throw it at Mason. Drew started to laugh and Claire rolled her eyes at him.

 “Real mature Carter” She said and crossed her arms over her chest and Mason started to laugh.

 “Haley, can I talk to you?” Mason asked and turned his face to me, sending me a smile.

 “No” Aiden hissed and everyone turned their faces to him.

 “Haley can speak for herself” Mason stated and walked over to me and took my hand.

 “Don’t touch her” Aiden hissed, making Mason laugh.

 “Are you jealous Aiden?” Mason smirked, making Aiden tense and ready to attack. Drew saw it and walked over to him putting his hand on his shoulder.

 “He is not worth it, I know you promised Ethan to look after her but you have to choose your fights” He whispered and Aiden calmed down.

 “Now, can I have a word with you?” Mason asked me and I looked at Aiden, who was looking worried. I nodded my head and Mason smiled and grabbed my hand.

 “I wan’t to eat first” I said and took my hand out of his and walked with Steph to get some pizza.

I was now standing face to face with Mason on our school yard, and I could feel Aiden’s gaze from across the yard. Aiden was very sceptical on letting me be alone with Mason but I convinced him to let me do it. Mason is very smart and if Aiden is to protective, he will find out what I’ve told Aiden.
