Jacob
'Talk about over-staying your welcome.' Rose hissed kicking me as she walked across the living room.
I simply laughed. It didn't bother me anymore. With Leah around, I was used to harsh comments and bitchy attitudes. All she gave away was that she was due to feed soon. She usually became agitated if she hadn't fed in a while.
'Stop it, Rose. He's our family and you know it. Don't be horrible,' Esme said calmly while Carlisle nodded approvingly. I wink at Rose knowing it would only make her mood worse.
She tries to mouth something but I don't want to give her satisfaction so instead, I look up at the ceiling and close my eyes.
I'm pretty much used to the house by now. And when I mean house, I mean smell. It used to burn my nose to hell. But now, I'm used to it. My nose itches with irritation sometimes but what do you expect when you share a space with a house full of vampires? At least the smell isn't as bad as it could be. Me, Seth, Leah, and Nessie all dilute the harsh chemical smell the vampires emit. Back in the day, the only break I could get was sitting near Bella or Seth and even that didn't do too much. But then Nessie was born.
I laugh now at how simple it all was. It didn't seem it at the time. It was a complicated mess filled with blood, tears, and betrayal. Who could have known that the reason I was so drawn to Bella, despite her unconditional love for Edward and somewhat disregard for my feelings, was because, unbeknown to us all, Bella was carrying my reason for living?
The worst day of my life: losing my best friend and love to some parasite and their spawn, turned into one I will never forget. I felt the pull after she was born and Bella was dead upstairs, being brought back to life by her stubborn husband. I wanted to kill it. I truly did. That's what I thought the pull was. I went into that room ready to kill her. I left willing to kill myself to keep her alive.
As soon as those human chocolate brown eyes looked back at me I was doomed. And I couldn't have been happier for it. The pull erupted into chaos inside me. It felt like everything before I glanced at her eyes was dull, boring, mundane. Blurred. Like I wasn't really living or feeling up until now. But looking into her eyes, Bella's old ones, I knew everything would be different- better. Because I knew she would be a part of it.
Something pulled me out of my reverie. My eyes snapped open and I sat up staring out of the door into the forest. I barely processed Edward and Bella sprinting out of the house, not even bothering to open the glass door. I was on my feet sprinting after them. Carlise and Esme sprinted past me blurs.
"Move, Mutt," Rose snarled sliding between me and the door as I passed through it.
I had barely passed the door frame before I peeled from my human form. Four legs. Two trained eyes, two perfect ears, and the best nose on this earth. I bounded towards the forest keeping up with the five white smears that entered the forest with me.
I pushed my legs to move faster. Faster. Each time I pushed myself to the limit Renesmee's scream would rip through my thoughts. Faster. Quicker.
Edward was already ahead of us all. I cursed him for being faster than me but thanked every god and mythical creature I could think of at the same time.
Seth and Leah shifted into my thoughts. Seth and Leah came to help. I didn't have time to tell them what happened. Instead, I slammed them with the sound of Renesmee screaming. That seemed to suffice.
I forced my muscles to push harder, my legs to move faster, and my paws to swerve to get the fastest route possible to get to Nessie.
I could smell the lake behind the tree's. Fast blurs drifting in through the gap I was looking at. Dread filled the pit of my stomach.
Me and Edward simultaneously pierced through the clearing.
Two new-born's, one male and one female, sprinted raggedly around and another lay on the floor in a pityful attempt to regenerate itself. Bella leapt onto its torso. There was no time to look away. The crunching sound of its spine being torn and bones breaking was inescapable. She pulled his head clean off hissing savagely. Do not mess with a mother and her child.
In the second it took for Bella to take the newborn's head off, a number of things became apparent. The most important one sent sirens flashing through my head: Nessie was no where to be seen.
One of the vampire screeched, the female, a sound more animal than man. Her crimson eyes looked directly into mine. Her eyes the same shade as Bella's when she first changed. Newborns.
Just like a newborn, they had no strategy other than to attack and kill. They looked over at us, confliction apparent on their faces. They both looked at each other. It took less than a second, a blur before they were staring at us again. Attack or commence whatever we had disrupted, their exchange said. Primitive reasoning won. Attack. Protect their meal.
The female attacked first. A small twitch in her leg gave her away. Jasper's training came in handy. It charged straight towards me. Carlise intercepted her attack easily. She barely even got to touch my fur. All the while, I charged to the other vampire, the tall male.
It will all be over in seconds. But seconds are a valuable asset in this situation. Seconds could mean life or death. Where was Nessie?

Chapter Two edited. I didn't need to do much to this chapter, I feel. But I've added a little bit extra regardless. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think?
