I flopped my backpack down one of the musty beds in the upstairs bedroom of the house we had found and now were staying in. Caroline looked at me "at least you have a bed now." She pointed out "yeah I just wish it didn't have to be a kids room." I said looking at the pink sheets and bins of dolls that still sat along the wall of the room. "If we're staying here I'm getting rid of those." I added pointing at the small bins "agreed." my sister said looking at the bins oddly. Though Caroline hated moving to other states she seemed to be doing better this time around witch I was grateful for, I always hated the fighting. "So" I looked at my sister "I guess I have to go look around town, get some food, we're out." I said. She looked at me "now?" She asked "no tomorrow at some point" I answered "I was wondering if you wanted to come with me" I smilled when her head snapped up and was nodding profusely.
I had actually slept the night before witch felt good and slept in that morning only waking up to the sound of smashing cupboards and pots and pans. I walked downstairs, tripping on the last step and I peared into the kitchen to find Caroline rummaging through cupboards and drawers. "What are you doing?" I asked her as I walked in "I thought I could find something usefull." She said with her head in cupboard "Okay." I said and walked out. I went back upstairs and began to search through my backpack for my sweater, Spring weather was still pretty cold. "Ha, here we go!" I pulled out the gray sweater from the bottom of my bag and slipped it on; it was a bit torn and dirty but it helped keep the cold from sinking into my skin. I sat on the bed and looked out the window, surprisingly it wasn't shattered and kept in just a bit of heat. I looked at the bins in the corner of the room, the dolls inside were starring at me, I shuddered, I had never liked dolls "time to get those out of here" I said to myself jumping off the small bed.
It hadn't taken long to get all the little pink bins out of the room to the backyard, I had just shoved them all under the old wooden swingset that was in the middle of the dry, dead grass in the backyard. I sat on the patio looking out at the yard, many toys were strewn across it and I wondered what were the kids who lived here like, what were their parents like, if they were still alive. I was torn away from my thoughts as the glass sliding door opened and my sister walked out and slumped down beside me. "So did you find anything?" I asked her "no, just the pots and some silverware." She sighed "oh well" I sighed as well "I'm sure we'll find something when we go out." I said reasuring and placed my arm around her shoulder.
We had decided to head out once the sun had gone down and it was easier to hide if we were spotted. "Should we take the truck?" My sister asked "no, let's just walk tonight." I said and went out the door. We both silently walked down the cracked sidewalk into town, the setting sun cast shadows over the buildings and streets and I jumped at every one of them. Now it was hard not to feel like you being followed, but right now the feeling was especially strong and I couldn't shake it off. I looked over at Caroline "feels like we're being followed." I said "you always feel like that." She said matter-of-factly and kind of laghed, I rolled my eyes and kept walking. The stores here looked a lot more promising than in Georgia witch was a good thing, maybe we could actually stay for a while. I peared through a few windows, many of the stores looked horrible, nothing left on the shelves and the floors were cover in dust and mud even blood in one of them; I didn't want to think about the past and what had happened in there.
Halfway through town and I was getting worried, the looks of the town were very deceiving, there was still nothing here. "Are we going to have to move again" Caroline asked realizing the threat of not finding anything "I don't know." I said "I kinda hope not, the truck will run out of gas before we get somewhere and I hate the driving." I looked down then back at her "we still have half the town though so we might still find something." I added trying to cheer her up a bit. We continued through the last bit of town in silence, we stopped a few times to look through a store window, not expecting to see anything. I was loosing hope and Almoast didn't look through the lone smashed window of the final store on the street; but when I did someone looked back.
