I finally drove up to the house at about ten-o-clock in an old Chevrolet pickup truck. The blue paint on it was going rusty and the brakes were squeaky but it ran and there was only on window smashed on the passanger side. I had left the headlights off the whole ride back witch had made it about ten times more difficult but I wasn't willing to get caught and followed back to the house. I shut off the engine and ran in the house wincing at the high pitched squeak that the door made as I closed it. "Caroline!" I called "I'm back I need to talk to you!" I heard creaking as my sister came down the steps. "It's about time" She said as she made her way down the last few stairs "what do you need?"
"We need to leave." I said. "What?"She looked at me in disbelief "we just got here, now we have to move again?"
"I knew you wouldn't like it" I began "but we have to; we are Almoast out of food and there's nothing here" I looked at her hoping she would understand. We stared at each other for a while like we usually do, conversing with our eyes, silent. "Ok" She gave in "I guess I'll get my things" She said and turned to go back upstairs.

An hour on the road and my sister was already asleep in the passenger seat beside me. I had decided to head North-east towards Virginia, I hoped maybe there was something there. I had it all planned out, how long it would take, portioned out what was left of the food and what roads we would take to get there. It was going to take about three days all together and we wouldn't have food for the third day unfortunately but I knew we would make it. I looked at the map again, I was only guessing about where we were based on the road signs but it looked like we were going in the right direction for now. I tried the radio, hating the silence that surrounded me. There was nothing but static for a while until I landed on a station that was playing an old beetles song, I didn't particularly like it but I was grateful it wasn't completely silent anymore.

I had been driving for about four hours now and the music had turned to static a while ago and I had to turn off the radio. I yawned, exhausted but I couldn't afford to stop because there was always the chance of getting caught. I looked up at the sky, clouds covered the slowly rising sun. I had been up all night, not that it was abnormal for me right now but now I was actually tired and felt I could fall asleep; that was the abnormal part. My sister shifted in her seat beside me "you awake?" I wispered but there was no answer from her; I guess she was still asleep. I looked at the map once more after seeing a sign for highway twenty-one, we were in South Carolina now according to the map and were still on highway ninety-five, a straight shot to Virginia. I dug into my bag grabbing one of the bags of chips that I had grabbed from the corner store in Georgia, ripped it open and took out a handful. I hadn't eaten in a few days, I had left most of the food for Caroline and I was paying for it now, I was absolutely starving and the chips didn't do anything to satisfy my hunger; still I ate them.

A few hours later Caroline woke up, she lifted her head from where it was resting on the seat and pushed the hair that was stuck to her face away. "Where are we?" She asked in a groggy voice as she looked at me "South Carolina." I answered "still on the ninety-five.". She didn't say anything else after that, just looked out the hole of Duct Tape that was covering her window; it was the only thing I had to cover up the shards of glass and keep the wind out. Once again I tried the radio, unsuccessfully this time and turned it off. I looked over at the glowing numbers on the dashboard clock; it read eleven thirty-two AM, I sighed, two more agonizingly silent days of driving to go.

"Hey Caroline, Caroline" I wispered as I shook my sister "wake up, we're here.". She looked up at me, clearly anoyed "what?" She looked out the window "we're here" I repeated "in Virginia.". She sat up straight at that "yes! Finally!" She said thrusting her fist in the air. "We're about two minutes from the nearest town." I said happily and turned on the radio until another old beetles song came on and sped down the road.
