I opened my eyes seeing myself in a living room. I looked right of me to see Lucas opening his eyes. He looked at me, and smiled. I intertwined our hands together, and kissed him once on the lips. He smiled and looked into my eyes.
"This is your happy place?" Lucas asked looking around and I smiled.
"This is the room we first met in."
"My living room?"
"Bingo. It was a quiet place in my head so when I wanted peace and quiet I would close my eyes, and remember this place."
"Thats quite interesting. Do you have any other happy places?"
"I don't know. What's your happy place?"
"Anywhere with you."
"I feel bad."
"Why?"
"Because I forgot about you, but you remember me." I watched as the room became darker, and slowly began to change.
"There wasn't a high chance you would remember me Annette."
"Doesn't change the fact that I still feel bad. It also doesn't change the fact that I don't know why I feel bad." I stood up watching as the couch disappeared, and the living room we were in became a bathroom with a mirror in it.
I watched as the door to the bathroom opened, and my father walked in. I backed away, and he looked at me like he was angry. I sat on the edge of the bathtub, and avoided eye contact with my father.
"You're mother is sick Annette." Father said looking at me with a look filled with stress and sadness. "You may not understand, but you're mother won't survive this."
"What do you mean?" I ask as if I were a little kid, and looked down at myself to see I was wearing a dress that was filled with flowers. I knew in that moment that along with the scene I had changed too.
"Come here." He put his hand out to me, and I stood up and walked to him. He picked me up. And set me down on the counter so we were eye level. "Remember the story I told you. About the sad man."
"Mhm."
"You remember how it went?"
"Yeah. He died at the end."
"You know what that means right?"
"Yes I do."
"What dies it mean?"
"It means he was to never see the light of day again. He closed his eyes forever."
"Well... mommy is dying Annette."
"Why?" I ask looked down at my hands.
"Because she's getting sick, and she's too weak to fight it."
"Why... why did mommy get sick?"
"She's been sick for a long time Annette."
"I don't want mommy to die."
"I don't either Annette. We can't do anything though. All we can do is be strong for mommy." I looked down at the ground, and felt sad. "Can we be strong together Annette?" I looked at him, and he sighed. "I can't be strong if you're not strong. We have to help each other out. Thats what family does. They work together at the worst time."
"What will happen after?"
"I don't know."
"Will just be us?"
"For a while yeah."
"I wish mommy would get better. So that we can all be together. As one family." I hugged him, and tried not to cry.
