Chapter 6

"So any plans for Thanksgiving?" Sarah asked from across the lunch table.

I slightly ignored her question and scanned my eyes across the cafeteria. I was looking for Justin. Ever since our little incident at his house a couple of weeks ago, things haven't been the same. Whenever I did see him, he would look at me, nod his head, and keep walking. We would never stop and talk to each other. In fact, we haven't even talked about what happened the last time we were together. When his hands went down my pants...yea, I would say that that is worth talking about.

"Who are you looking for?" I was startled by Sarah's question.

"Oh umm, no one." I replied, putting my head down and focusing on the slice of pizza on my lunch tray.

"Ew don't look now, here comes Bieber." Sarah mumbled, causing my head to automatically pop up.

As Justin walked by, he made the same exchange that we had been doing for weeks. A simple head nod as he continued walking in the other direction.

"Did he just nod at you? How fucking gross. I'm so glad that you are over him Em."

If only she knew that she was dead wrong. I hadn't told Sarah about how I stopped by his house a few weeks ago and we....well you know what happened. As far as she knows, I still hate him with a burning passion but boy was she wrong. I liked him more than ever now but apparently he didn't feel the same way. He never even talks to me anymore.

"Em! Are you okay?"

"Huh? Oh yea sorry. Yea I'm glad I'm over him too."

Just then, lunch bell rang and student popped up from the tables and started heading out of the door. Sarah and I walked over to the trashcan and threw our garbage away before following the large crowd.

"Okay so I have a meeting afterschool so I can't meet you at your car." Sarah said, taking large paces so she wouldn't be late for her next class.

"It's totally fine, I'll text you later."

"Oh I thought you didn't have your phone because you were still grounded?"

Reaching around to my back pocket, I pulled out my phone and waved it around. "Got it back this morning. I still can't leave the house but at least she gave me my phone back."

"Yay!" Sarah hugged my neck. "Okay text me later!" She then started skipping off to her next class.

Walking into my classroom, paper balls were flying everywhere and it was loud as fuck. I had assumed that we had a substitute. My usual English teacher would never let the class get this out of hand.

"Okay class, sit down." The voice was hard to hear but I soon focused in on a tiny foreign woman standing at the front of the room.

It took a few minutes but eventually the class settled down enough for the teacher to give her next instructions.

"So your teacher told me to let you guys continue working on your projects. I assume that you already know what you are supposed to do. So get to work but just try to keep the noise down."

Pulling my binder out of my book bag, I searched through for the tiny bit of the project I had already started. It was on some book called Great Expectations and honestly it was the work book I had ever read in my life. It was just my luck that we had a huge project on it.

About 30 minutes into the class I had managed to finish the first half of the project. It's amazing how much you could get done if you actually stayed focused.
