My legs were aching, but I couldn't make myself stop. I kept running till I was deep into the dark forest. When I could finally stop and rest, I was completely lost. I didn't know how long I had been running, but it was now dark out. The trees were so thick that I couldn't see the sky. There was only the faint light of the moon, finding areas to stream through the trees' leaves, to light the forest enough for me to see. As I sat down on a decaying log laying on the ground, I realized I had been crying. The tears streaked down my face, leaving cold trails on my cheeks. I couldn't bring myself to stop. I had lost everything, and now, I was completely and utterly alone. After a few minutes of wallowing in self pity, I was able to stop the tears and sobs. I stood up and looked around me. I saw nothing but trees. Although, one of them did catch my attention. It was oddly shaped, with it's branches strangely positioned. I felt drawn to this tree for reasons I didn't understand.
I needed a safe place to sleep, so I climbed to the top branch of the strange tree and slept. As I slept, I dreamed of my life before everything started to change. I saw visions of myself when I was young, like my parents and I playing together at the park, a group of my friends during a game of hide and seek, and me, cradled in my mother's arms during a thunderstorm. Then, I was older. I saw myself with my friends at the mall, having a meal with my parents (I was an only child), and at my fifteenth birthday party. Suddenly, a black mist filled all of the visions and swirled around in my memories until everything went black.
I awoke with a start. I looked around to see I was in the same tree I fell asleep in, and the sun was streaming in through the trees. A light mist was circling around the forest, leaving the air muggy and damp. All of a sudden, a deep, demonic, booming voice that seemed to be coming from everywhere said ''I have been waiting for you to wake." I look around, but see no one. The forest is empty except for the trees. The voice chuckles lightly. "I am the tree you are so comfortably laying in." it says, seemingly in my head. Before I can react, the black from my dream surrounds me. I can't move or see. I feel myself moving through the air, then I was standing on the ground. The black mist slowly evaporated, and I was standing face-to-face with a tall, slender man dressed in a black suit with a red tie. He had white skin... and no face!!! I should have been afraid, but I wasn't. I should have screamed and ran, but I didn't. Instead, I did the strangest thing I had ever done. I said "Hi".
